Dear stackers,

Below gold ducat is one of the 2000 ducats that were salvaged in 1981 from a Dutch ship that sunk early 1735. The ship, called Flying Dear (Dutch "Vliegent Hart" or Hert), was only on its second trip towards Batavia Indonesia when it sank for the coast of Zeeland Netherlands. All 256 people on board died among which were 80 soldiers.

So at the moment of sinking the Ducat was only 6 years old. In total the ship had on board three crates with gold and silver. Most was salvaged in 1981-1983 among others 2000 gold ducats and 5000 silver reales all dated 1729!
The ducats of those years were of low minting quality due to the high demand of the trade with East India. You can get these for USD 700.

So how do these silver (spanish) realen look ?

Well they look like this and they are a little below 100 USD and come with certificate.

It's very interesting history. I'm surprised they are circulating so cheaply on the open market.

They say that coins are History in your hands. This article is a true proof of this.
