Engelhard Personal Promo...

I had fun writing up a recent article that highlighted a Deak International promotional item. I thought it would make sense to keep this ball rolling. Except this time it is about "personalized" promotional items.

About 8 months ago I was scrolling through Instagram and I saw a post about an Engelhard money clip. I have NEVER once seen or heard anything along the lines of what I was seeing. Of course, I start shaking and get a warm feeling over my body. The immediate urge to aquire! Like every other die hard silver stacker/collector does when they see a prize. I fired away the direct message and it led to an interesting conversation....

Turned out this gentleman was yard saling that morning in New Jersey. Which is a great start to any story by the way!! He was digging through some boxes of old jewlery and asked the owners if they had any silver bullion/bar's etc. The owner of the home said yes and went inside to gather a couple things. He came back out and proceeded to hand over these.....

Two - 1oz Engelhard .999 silver pressed bars. When turned over you can see they have been altered and used as money clips. Engelhard produced roughly 25,000 silver bar's in this series. The gentleman hosting the yard sale starts to tell him that his father worked at the Engelhard facility in New Jersey. During breaks and lunch the employees would produce unique items. Often handed out as gifts or even just for personal use. His father manufactured these money clips during his time working there.

Notice how the reverse side of the money clips are different. One has a more finished polished clip. While the other seems to be a roughly improvised clip. The polished clip actually had a PAT number stamped on it. I assume that is a patent number? This could have been a prototype of some kind. Possibly even went into production for a short period of time.

Comparing condition the rough clip example is much more worn! While the polished clip is pristine.

Needless to say a deal was made on these between the guy running the yard sale and the new buyer. This story is just amazing to me. Anything with this kind of story attached is priceless. It is a small insight into what production was like back in the day!! Being able to connect on this kind of personal scale with an Engelhard employee is exciting for me.

To top this story off.... I'm curious if anyone noticed.... 🤔

The Engelhard facility that the gentlemens grandfather worked at was located in Newark, New Jersey. Just so happens that is where my cherished Engemhard money bag came from 🙈🙈.

Should I go return it?? - "Please Return This Bag"

That would be the day! 😅. Aside from the great production story there is amazing cross over with this canvas Engelhard money bag. I hope everyone who reads this article can find some appreciation for personalize promotional items like these.

I often use a money clip and what a great way to get utility out of a silver product. I think you'll be ok if you keep the bag:-)

@torch66 I use a money clip too. Thanks why I was drawn into these. I haven't had the heart to use them yet though. Bag is certainly staying lol
