My Growing Ship Coin Collection

in steemsilvergold •  7 years ago  (edited)

**Like some stackers, I am an accidental coin collector. **

I never intended to have a Ship Coin collection going, but circumstances just led me to it.

This set of Portuguese Escudoswas an appreciation give from a YouTuber friend, BeachBum Silver. These are silver coins of 2-1/2, 5 and 10 escudos. The Caravelle, sailing vessel of the XVth century is shown in the obverse of the coin.

Perhaps you seen this next one from a previous post. It is the 1949 Canada George VI Commemorative Silver Dollar which depicts the vessel The Matthew on the reverse of the coin, a gift from @mikegpo.

I purchased this next coin as an appreciation gift. This is the first year issue of the 2017 Rwanda Nautical series, The Santa Maria. This is, once again, a coin that did not make it to the intended recipient. I decided that it will not be as appreciated as much as I intended, so I changed my mind. These things happen, LOL! In fact, this is the only second time I will look at this coin from when I bought it the week it hit the market. It is a beautiful coin, and I am looking forward to the 2018 release.

And now, my newest ship coin: The Cook Island 2018 Silver Bounty coin that depicts an image of the sailing vessel Bounty on the reverse, and of course, Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The design features a "net" like design in the field that adds dimension to the coin.

A very small but steadily growing collection of ship coins.

Slow and steady wins the race!

Thank you, steemit friends, for allowing me to share these coins with you. I hope to see you again in my next post!

Lot of vessel love right there👍🏻.

Lots of vessel love, for sure! My gosh, there is a ton of ship coins that has been minted worldwide! I can just stack ship coins... except that they come with a premium. I will stick with ASEs.

You need a Chinese Junk dollar ;) Great ship collection, I'd ship it!

That will be an excellent addition to this tiny set, LOL!!! BTW, I appreciate you coming and commenting on this post!!! hmmm... like this one?

That would be the one! And I see kerris is already gave you the history lesson!

Yes, she did @thegrenadier! BTW, how was your exam the other day?

It happened :P

A nice and controversial ROC silver coin. Especially with the birds above the ship flying in a warplane formation, I recall that this was a reminder of the horrors of the Sino-Japanese war. Another coin was made without the birds on it.

WOW, you know your ship coins, Sis!!! Thanks for the info!

At a local coin show, I met an Asian fellow that specialized in Chinese coins, he showed me that very coin and told me the story behind it.

Any place is a place of learning, they say.

Oh Sis, there are so many coins with the Ship theme on them there should be a catalog just for that itself. Oh oh, I feel a need to take a quick nap.

Hahahaha, do take a quick nap!!!

Darn, when I do get time to get on my home computer I seem to habitually fall asleep on t he ...key ...bor... zzzzz...

Awesome vessel coins sweetie!! 👍 That Bounty is 😍😍😍😍 Great post my SSFL👊💗

The truth is: I love vessel coins. I think that I will deliberately build this collection. Hearts, Lions, Dragons and Vessels. SSFL

Nice show of ships my friend. Thanks for sharing👍

Do you like ship coins, my friend? I really want to get to know your stack more. I probably need to read your older posts to do that. I appreciate your comment. Have a great evening.

I do. I’ll try and dig mine out of storage to show off. My collection will take a long time to post it all. I have an extra one that I didn’t see in your collection, it will be on its way to you shortly....enjoy👍

That Cook Island one looks really cool. I am not familiar with values, I collect what I think looks good. Still learning.

Hahaha, like me too, mrs-v. I really do not know what I am doing. I just buy what I like, LOL, and accumulate silver in the process. It works, hehehe! Thanks for stopping by, sweetR!

Nice, I dig the Cook Islands one, that net gives it a cool geometric vibe a bit like my art.

Hello, @adammillwardart! I just followed you! I do love your motto: "I create to inspire you to pursue your own passions. Life is too short", And may I add that it may be shorter for others. Yet... life is good! Thanks for stopping by, my friend. I appreciate it very much!

Thanks! If you're collecting silver with boats, check out Canadian dimes prior to 1968, they were silver and have the Bluenose schooner on them and they're usually not too pricey lol ;)

I think I will do that! Thanks for the information, my friend. I appreciate you!

Those are all beautiful coins. Thanks for sharing.

I know... they are. So I think I will start building this collection. Do you have ship rounds in your stack?

Thank you for the mention my friend !! What a great ship collection you are building !

Of course, my friend!!! You sent me the best Vessel coin ever! BTW, did you send me your last 1949?

I really like your ship coins!

this one is not silver or gold but it's still one of my favorite coins.

It is BEAUTIFUL!!! What is the name of the vessel? The Matthew?

Thanks, The ship is Sir Francis Drake's 'Golden Hind'.

those are beautiful coins. I will keep an eye out to add similar ones to my collection, thanks

Okay, keep me posted. Perhaps I can get the same coin/s as you. You can guide me in building my collection! Thanks for dropping by, my friend. I just followed you. See you again!

Damn!!! I wanna’ silver fleet too! Love that Portugese coin, awesome!

A silver fleet, you must have, my friend! Yeah, those escudos are very nice. Lets build a silver fleet together!

Indeed!
😎👍

Beautiful collection and I believe this happens to most of us. We start building our stacks and then we find items we identify with and boom a collection evolve. I am in full agreement with you about the 2017 Rwanda Nautical series, The Santa Maria. I have one and I think I will continue buying one to continue the series. These ships really appeal to the Goonie in me and makes me yearn for the treasure that has been lost to time. Thank for sharing!!
