Coin of the Day 9-20-18

in steemsilvergold •  6 years ago

I'm still on the evening posting schedule, so I apologize if you've been waiting around for hours for my post. If that's you, let me know in the comments below.

Tonight's coin is a 2018 Double Dragon from Niue. It is one ounce of silvery goodness.

As you can see, the other side depicts the Queen. It carries a face value of Two Dollars. Because Niue is uses the New Zealand Dollar as their currency, that means these are NZD. In case you were wondering, $2 NZD is approximately $1.33 USD at today's exchange rates.

This is one that I've seen before and hadn't really considered getting, but when I saw it on sale, I decided to jump at the chance. It's one that I think will appreciate if they continue to make the dragon series. It could be one of those that is a hidden gem right now, but gains value over time.

Do you have any Dragons?

Thank you!

hiya, i am now officially jealous :) i saw another coin with two dragons but this one may be prettier, lovely coin, glad you found it and hope you find more, have a fab day. respect

Aww, thank you. I used to get jealous, but as my stack started growing, I would just get pumped up for whoever got the coin, and then I'd add it to my list of things to get. The jealousy only flares up if the Stakitus gets too bad. Ha ha.

I'm glad you liked the coin. :)

sir noname! oh my gosh this one is a real beauty, love the dragons! what is Niue though?

Glad you liked the coin! I didn't know a lot about Niue, so I had to look it up. Now you know about as much as I do. :P

From Wikipedia

Niue (/ˈnjuːeɪ/ NEW-ay; Niuean: Niuē) is an island country in the South Pacific Ocean, 2,400 kilometres (1,500 mi) northeast of New Zealand, east of Tonga, south of Samoa, and west of the Cook Islands. Niue's land area is about 261 square kilometres (101 sq mi) and its population, predominantly Polynesian, was about 1,600 in 2016. The island is commonly referred to as "The Rock", which comes from the traditional name "Rock of Polynesia". Niue is one of the world's largest coral islands.
Niue, whose capital is the village of Alofi, is a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand; and New Zealand conducts most diplomatic relations (though not all) on its behalf. Niueans are citizens of New Zealand, and Queen Elizabeth II is head of state in her capacity as Queen of New Zealand. Between 90–95% of Niuean people live in New Zealand

howdy sir noname! oh my gosh Niue is a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific...how interesting though..no wonder we've never heard of it!

I didn't know about it until I started collecting coins and saw it on a number of them. I had to look it up because I didn't know.

howdy again sir noname! see coin collecting is also very educational! loll.

Yeah, we're learning all about world geography by way of seeing the currencies from around this big old ball of earth.

sir noname! yes sir it's an amazing hobby to be able to build your wealth and get alot of education at the same time. Most hobbies just take money but this one builds security. Some day I'll be able to start stackin you watch.

I have a few dragons (who doesn't love dragons?), including the above one. I like their unstopping search for the flame pearl.

I'm hoping that if my dragons can find the flaming pearl, and if my monkey can find the Black Pearl, that I can combine them and have the "flaming Black Pearl!" It's a pirate ship that is always on fire, but never sinks. It's faster than other ships because the heat generated creates power that's used to propel the ship. Also, it's really easy to roast marshmallows. :D

Gorgeous! Another one for da list! 😁👍

Heck yeah, man!

i research white dragon society

I'm not sure what that is.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

That is a very beautiful coin you purchased.
I have one question though: if it's fine silver why does it have a superficial "gold" color?
I am in Mexico right now and I'm finding some cool coins that are no longer in circulation. I want to write about them soon but I want to take a short breather. I just completed an article detailing the history of another city I visited here in Mexico. It took me less than 6 days to complete.

why does it have a superficial "gold" color?

Poor lighting by the cameraman, aka me. I had been using a light that had too warm of a color, so something like silver came out looking gold. Sorry to mislead you.

That would be exciting to see your posts on some of the older Mexican coins. It's fun to get ones that aren't in circulation because they're much harder to for others to get them which normally means the value is higher.

Oh yes, I understand. I hate yellow light!
And yes, Mexico has circulated many commemorative coins which are no longer valid to use. I will search the search the house for more (I heard there are some secret stashes).
Please check in if you like! I always love when I post about something I'm interested in but know little about and more experienced people take a look as well! It would be an honor.

I'll have to work on getting a better light so it doesn't look as gold.

What houses do you have that you can search for secret stashes? I need to get one of those! :)

Our summer house in Mexico! No, I'm not rich haha. My grandpa left us this house. Not much has changed in it nor the village itself. It is full of curiosities. My direct male descendants were numismatists and I guess I was sort of born into the hobby as well. I promise today I will post about a truly unique "coin". Probably of a type you've never heard of.
