Liverpool assistant manager Zeljko Buvac takes a break ahead of Champions League Semi-final trip to Rome

Jurgen Klopp’s assistant manager Zeljko Buvac the club has confirmed will embark on a break and away from Liverpool first-team duties.

Buvac , nicknamed the ‘brain’ by supporters who has worked with Klopp close to a decade and reports emerged on Monday morning that Buvac had quit his role as Klopp’s assistant manager just before the return leg fixture at Stadio de Olympico in Rome where Liverpool will travel to take on Roma in the Uefa Champions League semi-final fixture.

The club says that is not the case as Buvac is spending some time away from the first team environment between now and the end of the season for personal reasons. The Club went further to state that Buvac remains an employee of Liverpool FC and that the state of the club is not affected by his absence.

Liverpool management considers the matter a private issue and as such no further comment will be made on the matter.

The ‘brain’ as he is fondly called by fans was on the touchline for Saturday’s draw at home to visiting Stoke City and irrespective of the club’s position; Buvac will be greatly missed by all.

Buvac has been Klopp’s assistant for close to two decades working with him at German Bundesliga clubs Mainz 05 and at Borussia Dortmund.
