A recent article featured in the prestigious journal "Science" on strain-programmable fiber-based artificial muscle, by Mehmet Kanik et al. (see: Mehmet Kanik, Sirma Orguc, Georgios Varnavides, Jinwoo Kim, Thomas Benavides, Dani Gonzalez, Timothy Akintilo, C. Cem Tasan, Anantha P. Chandrakasan, Yoel Fink, Polina Anikeeva. Strain-programmable fiber-based artificial muscle. Science 12 Jul 2019: Vol. 365, Issue 6449, pp. 145-150. DOI: 10.1126/science.aaw2502), draws parallels between their artificial muscle constructs and cucumber tendrils. Dr. Kanik asked my permission to use the last image in my steemit/steemstem article on Cucumber Tendrils to illustrate these parallels. I was very pleased to grant permission for this fair use. The image appears in Kanik et al's "Science" article supplement (Figure S1): "Fig. S1. Tendril perversions. Comparison of the cucumber tendril and fiber muscle (inset). (Cucumber tendril image is shown with the permission from Prof. David Rhodes, Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Purdue University.)"
Bottom line: when you contribute articles and images on steemit/steemstem you may be pleasantly surprised by who and what they may inspire!
Good job. Nice work by the steemstem team.
