[english version] Human body, superhuman ?

Are you already aware of the amount of liquid a human body can absorb? Keep reading because you will be surprised !

The more I study the functioning of the human body and its diseases. The more I think about it, the more surprising it seems that my body manages to function perfectly without major problems. Today I want to share one of the facts about the body that makes it almost superhuman, with you. Everyone already knows that in order to be healthy you should drink about 1,5 to 2 liters of water per day. But did you know that the human body produces 7 liters of fluids per day, in addition to the water you drink?! Isn't this crazy? This means that about 9L of fluid passes through your body every day! Here is a list containing the quantity of liquid produced in just one day: - 1L of saliva - 2L of gastric juice - 2L of pancreatic juice - 1L of intestinal juices - 1L of bile (produced by the liver) - (2L of water ingested) At the end of the day, almost all of it will be reabsorbed by the small intestine and only the remaining 1L will pass through in order to be absorbed later by the colon. (FYI, we produce about half a liter of urine per day, but that's another story)

This picture below is a histological photo of the small intestine.

You will notice that there are many folds! The main function of the intestine is to absorb a maximum of nutrients and liquids, meaning it is important to have as large of an absorption area as possible.

There is a triple system to increase its surface :

1. the connecting valves

2. the villi

3. microvilli (folds on the surface of each cell)

In total the contact surface adds up to 200m2, which is equivalent to the surface of a tennis court!

I hope this little anecdote surprised you as much as it surprised me !
