SRBase entries in Chris Caldwell's TOP5000 largest known primes database

SRBase is a mathematical research project that uses Internet-connected computers trying to solve Sierpinski / Riesel Bases up to 1030. The project is in collaboration with the Mersenne CRUS project. SRBase uses BOINC to distribute work-units to linked computers and has currently 409 active participants to solve this challenge.

Introduction


Two weeks ago I reported the discovery of prime 104*579^222402-1 for SRBase, which entered the TOP5000 in Chris Caldwell's The Largest Known Primes Database. In the past 3 years SRBase has produced other primes that entered the TOP5000 but unfortunately there is no combined overview with all these primes (similar to PrimeGrid Mega Primes). This gave me the idea to create one.

Approach


I took the following approach to develop the table:

  • All TOP5000 primes are published in various postings on the project Messages board. While browsing through all threads, I gathered the TOP5000 primes plus users who produced them.
  • Then I matched these primes with Chris K. Caldwell’s database to find the current ranking, the number of digits and when they were discovered.
  • Finally I collected the team details for each person on the SRBase search portal.

Based on this information I compiled the table below.

Results


Currently there are 183 primes registered in the TOP5000 with team Gridcoin as the largest contributor (60% of all primes).

In the table below you will find per line the prime, the current ranking, the length of the prime in number of digits, when it was discovered, by whom and in which team he/she is participating.

Conclusion


With a limited number of participants and being a CPU only project, SRBase has a substantial number of primes in the TOP5000.
There are 7 primes in the table above without user-name and team which I have marked as Unknown. In case you know who has found these primes please let me know and I will amend the table accordingly.

Gridcoin is an open source cryptocurrency (Ticker: GRC) which securely rewards volunteer computing performed upon the BOINC platform in a decentralized manner on top of proof of stake.

BOINC (Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing) is a distributed Internet platform and was launched beginning of 2002 and it rewards participants with credits for performed work. BOINC is an application available for multiple Operating Systems and uses the unused CPU and GPU cycles on computers to perform scientific work.
