The Secrets of Light.....Part-1..... How Big is your Light???

Light Diffraction through Diffraction Glasses

What is Light?

Light comes in many forms, it's not just the light you see with your eyes. Infact the light you see with your eyes is a tiny fraction of the range of light that exists. Light travels at the speed of light 300,000,000 meters per second in space, and this you can't change, we will talk a little bit more about this later. Light is a wave, so it has a frequency and a wavelength, different types of light have different frequencies and wavelengths.

For example, did you know that Radio Waves is a form of light, It has a very long wavelength and small frequency which means that the energy of one photon of light is small. This is to be compared with high energy light of Gamma Rays which has a very high frequency and a very short wavelength, it is this fact that makes Gamma rays a form of harmful radiation. In between these two ends of the Electro-Magnetic Spectrum you have all the other types of light as you can see in the picture below. Imagine if your eyes could see all the other types of light, it would be incredible, some animals and insects actually see different types of light that Humans, for example Bees can see in the Ultraviolet range. When Nasa take pictures from satellites alot of the time the light emitted from the object is not visible to the eye, so they use false colours to allow us to interpret the light.

Electro-Magnetic Spectrum

So know you know a little bit about what types of light there are, I'll tell you something crazy. Your body is hot, I don't mean attractive, maybe you are, but i mean that you produce heat. Heat is radiated away from your body so that you cool down, when you radiate the heat you are actually emitting infrared light, just as you may have seen with IR-cameras.When we talk about light, the definition of radiation means that the light continues to travel to infinity unless it is absorbed by something in the way. The moment you were born you body emitted Infrared light into the Universe and the light is still travelling today. For example a person of 50 years, has been emitting light all thier life, and the light they emitted since they were born has travelled 50 light years. To put that in perspective it has reached all the stars in the picture below. If you thought you were small and your extent into the universe was small, then think again, you have literally a sphere of light that you emitted since birth that could be detected all those light years away. You are a body of light.

50 light years distance and all the stars

Next time in Part-2

I will talk about the speed of light and what happens as you start to approach that speed, what happens to the Sun if you made it vanish in an instance, and also how to bend light around an object.

What if Light doesn't travel at all and it's all energy mass that constantly moves and is transformed... all of the equations would still work, but we would just have to work things backwards in a sense. & then it would make sense as to why light travels at the speed of time. & why time stops if you would travel at speed of light. Its kind of a weird backwards philosophy but it makes sense to me.. idk, Maybe light is omnipresent, timeless and never moving but its how we distort aspects of how we filter its totally where we get different variants and effects of this subtle cosmic light that is just everywhere and sometimes not so subtle lol, inspiring post to say the least :::)

Thank @kaliptus. This is why I love this stuff, because it makes questions like this. You've got a really good point, it's almost impossible to fully conceptualize it in the mind.

@astronomyizfun Maybe this post is to your liking. This was a favourite of mine when communicating science to the public.
