Biologist's Adventure #6 | What happen when our body not producing sweat?

I go to the park to jog with my friends. Then, I think about the hotness, it can be a problem for myself. The temperature in Malaysia on the evening normally 29-32 Celsius, for me it is quite hot. The Sun radiation that stores a lot of energy hit us every day. The energy of the emission also can melt down a rock, but there will be some problem for living organism like us, we need to find a mechanism to cool down ourselves.

When your mom cooks something, say a hot soup, it’s really hard to cool the soup down. But, you can do something to cool down the hot soup instantly. You can put some ice cubes inside your soup or blow on the soup or put it under the moving fan. Next, you also can put the soup in the fridge, but this may take a longer time to cool it down.

“ blow on the soup or put it under the moving fan”

Wait a minute! Why when we blow something it will start to cool down? Seems there are many people think that when they blow a hot cup of coffee, the coffee will cool down because of their breath is colder than the hot coffee, so this will eventually cool down the coffee. This technique may help to cool down the coffee, but, about their breath is colder than the hot coffee is not the real reason for the coffee cold down. Hot coffee and soup, and also the others food have a lot of water on the surface and there also some water inside the food. To evaporate the water off inside and outside of the food, it just needs the food temperature only. That’s why you can see a line of smokes going up from your coffee. Back on the blowing mechanism, the coffee cool down because of your dried breath, and it is probably drier than the hot coffee. For this reason, this will helps the evaporation of the coffee. But, why this happen? Why this helps the coffee to cool itself down? We need to use some Physics on this, which is called as the endothermic process, this will requires heat to occurs. The heat from the hot coffee is stolen by the evaporation process, this will happen if you use the blowing techniques and the coffee will cool down. Still not trust me? Okay an easier way to prove this, get a glasses, hold the cup close and blow them. I assure there will be a condensation water on your glasses, that is water that evaporates from the coffee!

Enough!!! We need to back to our topic, “How does our body cool down”, let's think for a moment. How can living things get colder? How does our body cool down after we playing badminton?

There are many ways and method to cool down a stuff, like a fridge. The process of stealing away the heat from an object is not promoted by the thermodynamic and it’s energy demand. To build this, a huge amount of energy we should use if our body wanted to invest in this way. But in our body, there is a process that cheaper but it’s quite elegant and more efficient to cool down our body. That is “S W E A T”, yes sweat, when or body warm-up we will sweat a lot. We sweating for some reason.

Our body will lose water when our body started to warm up. Then, to recover the water level we can take some water, and the water that we have drinks will lose when we sweat. Our skin will be sweating and the sweat will evaporate. This is genius and very amazing. The sweat will evaporate through the sun and the wind also helps in this things, they steal our heat and leaving our skin a little colder. That’s why, when you bath with a cold water and there is no towel, you will notice that you will get freaking cold!

Sweating is a really amazing process, and I could say it is a smart process. This process is priceless, we don’t need to spend money or cryptos in this process. For your information, some animals like dogs don’t sweat to lose heat but they will always stay their tongue out to lose the heat from their body. Thanks for reading my post, keep following my adventure. Don’t forget to watch the video below, you understand more about sweat.
