Steem & Steemit related terms

Steem is derived from the word esteem meaning to regard something or someone with great respect and admiration. The word esteem originates with the Latin word aestimare, 'to estimate' value.

As the community around Steem and Steemit grows and our culture evolves, we will find many ways to build our identity and define it. It is an exciting and fun process to be a part of. The following list of terms and meanings may well change;

Steem - is the native unit of account within the Steem network. It is also the name for the Steem blockchain, or 'Steemchain.'

Steemchain - is the Steem blockchain that records all of our digital interactions and is also the network of people connecting with each other.

Steemit - is the social media web application with the functionality that enables us to generate content and connect with each other.

Steemer - everyone that uses Steem or Steemit.

Steeming - the act of engaging with the Steemchain and fellow Steemers by building, reading, writing or even thinking about Steem.

Steem on - is to continue Steeming.

Steemologist - an expert in all things related to Steem.

Steememe - is well, a meme about Steem.

Steemdependence Day - this is the day, on the 4th of July 2016, when the first Steem generated rewards were disbursed and the world changed forever.

Steem train - one of many phrases that describes the idea of joining a growing Steemchain and contributing to something with great potential.
