I often find myself trying to break down my own expectations and assumptions about events and it's good to remember why we shouldn't do those things. We can perceive our own limited scope of reality to be one way, when in fact it's many different ways all at once and we only have a small piece of the puzzle. I have gotten into the habit of asking or looking for further clarity rather than jumping to conclusions as it avoids lots of messy problems in my own life. It's also a good idea to follow the same rules of thought on steemit and every other aspect of our lives. We shouldn't assume or expect things are a certain way just because that is what we perceive them to be. It's also important to remember that circumstantial evidence can usually support our claims and make us feel justified in jumping to conclusions. The best approach that I have found is to not expect anything from anyone that they didn't voluntarily offer or share and don't assume that whatever we share with others is always taken at face value. Namaste.
I couldn't have said this better. Especially the part about circumstantial evidence being used to support your preconceived expectations. It is hard to keep an open mind and easy to deliver knee jerk reactions.

Funny thing that i read your post about expectations :) I did an article about that earlier "No expectations, no disappointments". Good to see we are on the same wavelength.
Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed. – Alexander Pope
“Expectations may sometimes lead you to disappointments, but the anger of getting disappointment may sometimes lead you to what you expected.”

True, true, true... It would be nice to have zero expectations at all times, but we aren't divine beings of perfection. I try to shape healthy expectations, like I expect myself to process my own emotions and be responsible for my own well-being instead of expecting someone to cater to my wishes.

Yes i agree, we have to expect something and take responsibility for ourselves, thus we can expect something from us. If we also want to achieve something we have to have a level of expectations of ourselves. There is a balances tough, ying/yang.

I think it gets easier to spot anothers motivations the calmer you get, with good tea ofcourse. Spotting intentions early leads to fewer expectations later....all is one and one is all...

After all there are just so many other things going on in this world for us to stay latched into a single minded perception

I also believe that people with hard held beliefs often have low emotional intelligence because I was like that myself.
I only recently started exploring my lack of emotional intelligence and I think it has helped me grow. I used to think that I got riled up during arguments because I was right. What I didn't realize is that I was getting so riled up because of my delicate ego.
Understanding this tendency in myself helps me think a little more rationally. I also noticed that I am learning again because I am not jumping to conclusions all the time.

Yes this is true regarding those with less than perfect emotional intelligence. I still struggle with how i react to emotions. Imagine two overlapping circles

I think you're 100% right, if you have high expectations for a particular thing or person, there's a good chance that they aren't going to live up to that expectation, unless you have a solid foundation on which you built those expectations!
