Look well into yourself, there is a source of strength which will always spring up if thou wilt always look.
This is a quote taken from Marcus Aurelius' book meditations and conveys the point that we are all strong, we just have to look inward and call upon that strength when the time comes and we need to use it.
I believe that humans can do extraordinary things with a combination of a certain mindset and a healthy body. This extraordinary human strength has been proven in so many accounts over the years, such as the survivors of the holocaust which Viktor E. Frankl talks about in his book - Man's search for meaning saying that people with a purpose, are able to muster up a certain strength that others just cannot fathom. This was displayed in the holocaust through the belief that the surviving prisoners had within themselves that they had a purpose that they needed to continue towards achieving once they got out.
David Goggins is another great example of this. He is famous for breaking the pull-ups record over 24 hours, running ultra marathons and regularly doing 100 mile runs in under 24 hours. He preaches that when you think you are done, you are actually only 40% done and still have 60% left of strength you can muster up and use. He is the living proof of this, based on his background and what he has gone through.
In essence, Marcus Aurelius is conveying the logic that we all have more to give in life, we all have the potential to make something of ourselves, to be courageous and to push the boundaries of what we think we can achieve. This mindset combined with a healthy body allows us as human beings to look within yourself, and muster up a strength we didn't even realise existed within us if we so wish for it.
Be Exceptional!
Have a great week,
Marcus Aurelius
Born on April 26th 121 AD in Rome, Italy
He went on to become the Roman emperor in 161 AD and was regarded the last of the five so-called Good Emperors. He wrote the famous book on Stoicism called Meditations which wasn’t formerly meant as a book for the masses but rather just a journal for himself on how to live his life. Unbelievably years later, the lessons he used and applied in those days can still be applied to society today, and it used as a tool by many titans of industry present today. He later died in 180 AD and is celebrated as the ideal emperor.
