Stop Motion Video

in stopmotionphotography •  6 years ago

I have dabbled with stop motion photography.

To make a video with stop motion photography the camera has to be very still and secured. I used a tripod mostly with a DSLR but some people choose to tape a small camera down to avoid any wiggle.

Video is a series of still images that flash in front of the eyes and effectively trick the brain into streaming the images together.

Decent stop motion photography requires at least 20 still frames for every second of motion.

When I was doing stop motion video I used LEGO products. For a mini-figure to move an arm without it being jerky, 20 images were made for every second of the video. Sometimes the images were edited after that. The images were then run through a video processing program that "stitched" all the images together. Along the way, the sound was added to fit each frame.

I won a LEGO Smart Creativity Contest one time. The video was only 2 minutes and 23 seconds long but the entire process took around 44 hours of work to complete it. It was not the most perfect stop motion and there are many things that could have been done better.

The Movie Coraline took a team of 30 professional animators 20 months to complete the 1-hour 40-minute movie.

Here are links to 2 short videos I made:
Dog makes a deposit 15 seconds

and
LEGO :41 seconds

The 2nd video was made longer by creating half of it then looping it back to double the length.

Fair to say you have significantly more talent than I do. Thanks for helping grow the lego tag on the Steem blockchain.

thanks for your comment. Not sure about the talent part. Most of it is trial and error and just having fun when it comes to stop motion. Good consistent lighting and a steady camera/tripod make lots of difference.

I have written a book about LEGO stop motion animation. If you need any advice please don't hesitate to ask. I am new to Steemit but if you need help advancing in rank please let me know. Thanks!!
