"My Newly Remembered Dream" a true story from my youth

in stories •  5 years ago

Hi @jerrytsuseer,

My childhood was a little similar, a long haired hippy kid who played in a rock band and experimented with smoking pot and doing so in a somewhat rebellious way of the conservative or different views my father had of how I should dress and act.

I'm not clear of the age you were when having this dream, but I like to look for metaphorical meanings in dreams, because throughout many times of my life, certain dreams would put things into perspective for me when I was able to "decode" the meaning.

There are elements to this dream, that to me signify a re-birth.(only based on my perception as the reader and could be totally wrong.) Perhaps you were a young man during this dream? Or even later in life, re-experiencing in dream form some of the aspects of what could be viewed as from childhood to manhood.

Standing at the edge of the dirt road, looking down into the gully

  • Looking into the vast unknown, associated fear, readiness to move to the next stage.

the mud around my feet suddenly liquefied, and I was sucked down in to the darkness.
Swirling, spinning in what I surmised (in the way of dreams)
I was being carried along in an ‘underground river’.

  • Taking the leap (whether you want to or not) into the unknown, scary, unforeseeable.

Knowing in my head, that these are not channels of water
large enough to carry someone in the current, in the dream world, that didn’t matter.
I struggled upward, I was running out of air!

  • Resistance, not sure if you are ready for the change, the new responsibilities, struggling with the knowing that this is beyond your control.

At the top of the cave/channel, I found a pocket of air and went up gasping.
Soon, I’d caught my breath.

  • Ah but you can still breathe, you are still fighting the good fight while venturing into the unforeseen.

I’d occasionally find a pocket that was actually part of a cave; I could tell by the
echoes of my breathing it was a large space.
Exploring (in total darkness) I found a ledge where I could climb out and rest…

  • Exploring, learning, experiencing the new uncharted territory.

Being hungry, I ate whatever I found by touch that was alive, raw of course.

  • Determined not to fail, you are doing what ever you need to do for the transition.

Time ceased to have meaning. The clothes I’d been wearing were gone, rotted and torn away.
Finally, after I knew not how long, I came up to a pool that was an opening to the outside!!!
I saw stars, the moonlight hurt my eyes it was so bright.
I stumbled in the darkness until I found a road, people found me,
a naked, bearded bone white, white man.

  • The completion, born anew, a new man, all that is of before stripped away, and walking head on and ready for what life has yet to bring from your transition.

Two Years had passed since I was sucked into the void.

  • Well I'm not so sure what the end might be indicating, but then again I am not sure if my interpretation is accurate even in the slightest.

I enjoyed reading about your dream Jerry, thank you for sharing with me, and I am curious to hear what you think of my interpretation of the metaphorical meaning behind this dream.

Nicely written.

Thank you @futuremind. I was indeed a teenager when I dreamed this, in real life, just a few years later, my daddy died from injuries incurred in a car crash, in which I was the driver of our car.
That scarred me deeply and lead to many years of alcoholism.

I like your interpretation, though right now, I'm dreadfully sick and
Need to go back to bed. I'll try to write more later.
Thanks again.
