Avarith: The Necromancers home

in story •  6 years ago

On the top of the tallest mountain in the range known as Terra's spine, dead center of the four boarders of the most powerful nations on the Continent, there sat an unremarkable house. Well it would be, if not that in reality it looked highly our of place. The front walkway had two large evergreen bushes in the front a wall in front of them both and a walkway between. The home itself, made of stone it skirting of it a tastefully done red brick. The back yard having a large green house filled with many varieties of plants. All would be considered normal if not for the fact it stood on a high mountain everywhere around it a white sheet of snow and ice while a ten foot circle around the home itself had fresh green grass and felt a comfortable seventy two degrees fahrenheit.

Inside were two occupants, one a dapper human fellow with a well tailored suit with a few gear like embellishments and a large scar on his handsome face. The eye the scar was over was a lighter blue compared to the other eye as if it was sightless though the way it was focused made it obvious that was not the case. His face unshaven giving his chin a thing scratchy beard which helped him look older which to the well dressed man was an improvement. His companion was much less attractive in the human sense. He was taller than the human, reaching nearly seven foot tall, his blush green skin, with large fish like eyes on the sides of his head. His mouth a cascade of tentacles touching the neck of his own clothing, though it was more a mass of dark robes hiding the rest of his body except his hands that had long nails like talons.

The necromancer in a rather dignified voice said, "I wish you would get a better fashion sense, I mean really you wear robes like an old warlock. I know you are far better, and smarter than a recent magic school graduate." He said admonishing the creature. It responded in a watery voice, with deep tones. "I choose this because even if you accept me my kind are still considered far more deadly and malicious." It paused on the word making sure it came out right. "Than most evil dragons, let alone eldritch abominations." It tested each of the more complicated words but they all came out understandable though it was helped he also projected his voice mentally to. This argument was old to them both, but routine for them both. Even if they planned on going into the veins of the world. Places were "dark" creatures lived and thrived.

For the most part the main room of the home like the outside was highly uninteresting upon a glance around the place. The only thing that would catch someones eye is a trunk near the fireplace that seemed to resemble a treasure chest, but inside were not riches and gold but teeth and innards. It in fact was a mimic and a test subject/guard dog. If one were inclined they would see nothing interesting around the home. Unless they found the hidden door that takes them to a hidden basement. In this area there were several floors all leading to various strangely high tech labs, each having equipment that most modern scientists would dream of having. High powered microscopes, computers doing major calculations and it seemed even a particle accelerator in the deepest portion of the lab. In this time of monsters swords and wizards this place did not belong yet here it was.

In the deepest part there was a wooden door the frame covered in runes, though this door was closed for the time being. In the house above there existed another hidden door this one leading to a stock standard dungeon, this door was far less hidden and easier to access. The dungeon had hired "monsters" and several undead guarding it. Honestly this was the least interesting thing in the home owners opinion. It had a few demons, dimi-lich an rounding out the numbers some goblins that were crafty in their own right. At the main entrance to the dungeon at the bottom of the mountain there stood a devil. It was large and imposing, and for every new face that wished to enter it would have them sign paperwork. These contracts insure that they went in knowing the risks and will not hold the owner liable for any injury or death. It was not needed in the slightest but Keeper preferred that any revenge quests to this place would be seen as trespassing and would be dealt with in far less quick ways than having their head removed.

This dungeon is how the Necromancer made sure no one ever really found his home, he even allowed the demons to post quests with rewards to the near buy guilds just so they don't get bored but also made sure they got paid too. No one ever really survived going in but reckless people always tried to enter and most of them were already wealthy with magical items and sometimes coin too. Honestly, the creatures inside all wore some of the greatest weapons and armor a master smith and enchanter could craft. Each "Monster" was happy with their lot in life and loved their job.

However this is not a story about them, but a minor explanation of the home of the future stories protagonist. Each time until the story is finished, the world and people in it will be fleshed out for others to get a sneak peek into what I wish to create. For further information each of these will be tagged with story and have in the title Avarith I will also write blogs about my life dealing with my past and current state of things.
