Day 4: 9:15pm - Dec 13 - Wednesday

I don’t know how to write this. I found Tom today. Tom made it as far as Jeff’s truck. I found Tom died in the passenger side of the truck. I think he had been there for awhile but I am no doctor. In his right hand I found a insulin tube. I am not sure but I believe Tom was diabetic and maybe his insulin froze and due to the cold temperatures simply slipped away. Day 4 and this “event” has taken its first! Am sure it has taken more but this is the only one I know. It bothers me I have no way to properly look after is body. I simply put his wool blanket over him. I left a note in the truck as well.

I found him at 1:00pm so I guess I will call his time of death(ToD): Dec 13.17.13:00

I have decided to make camp to the right of the truck about 200m into the woods. The wind is blowing up a storm. The temperature is -5C so I know real bad weather is on its way.

I have been melting snow for the past several hours in an attempt to make water. So far am up to about a gallon. It’s hard because of the wind to get anything done. Tom had a gallon of water in the truck but of course it was a frozen block of ice. It will take time to thaw it out but it will be worth it.

I found a lot of gear that Tom had left behind. I gathered everything I could find and had to make a trip back to the truck to get the last of the gear and what little bit of food he had. However, he had several plastic and stainless steel bottles and two-one gallon jugs. So storing large amounts of water should not be an issue but keeping it from freezing might be. He had two guns on him. A .300 Savage Magnum with 50 rounds and a SKS with a unopened tin and another thirty or so rounds spare rounds. So in total 730 rounds of 7.62x39.

Also there was 6 packs of oatmeal, 1 lbs of white rice, 35 granola bars, 2 bags of rice chips, 3 small protein bars and a small bag of salt. Plus a small first aid kit, 2 tarps, 1 large sleeping bag and assorted miscellaneous gear. I will sort all the gear out tomorrow and leave another cash of supplies at this site in case I have to return here. The weight of my cart is starting to become an issue.

I don’t mind saying that I am having a hard time staying positive. I feel as though I need to get around some people and fast. I have never been the social type but I think it would do me some good to find someone to talk to. But I know there was a lot of the guys on this camping trip that used a lot of their supplies during the camp out. So my fear is that if we was to meet they might want to simply just take my gear. But I guess who knows where they are. They may have already passed me during the night for all I would know.

Rest In Peace Tom
