Today I checked on my bee hives. I've been monitoring these hives over the last couple of weeks and I did notice that my best hive seemed to be slowing down a bit. I considered requeening in September but decided against it. For one reason, a new queen was about $35 and equally as expensive to deliver. I had hopes that the hive would make it through the winter so that I could requeen in the spring when there were more local queens available. Unfortunately, the hive has died and now I wonder what I should do with the two brood boxes and one honey super. Should I try and recover the honey in that is in the hive? If anyone has dealt with this scenario your advise would be much appreciated.
