Hi Steemians,
Hurray!!! We are in the season of Christmas once again, a time to be with and share memorable times with loved ones but let’s not forget that it is this period that we also get to experience harmattan.
The season of Harmattan is a period in the year where the weather becomes very cloudy, dry and with dust everywhere you go. It always comes during the Christmas season when the year is about coming to an end, between December and February of the next year.
A lot of people all over the world love the harmattan season but there is a major thing that gets people pissed off about the season. It is during this period that you get to see people with catarrh and cough because of the dry and cloudy weather.
However, it is only good as a human on my part to highlight some steps than can be taken in order not to fall victim of catarrh and cough during this season of harmattan.
According to the American University of Nigeria, it highlighted some major steps to take to ensure a healthy and sound health this season.
Drink lots of water to prevent dehydration: Make sure that you take in plenty of water every now and then during this period because a dehydrated body is easily prone to cough and catarrh during harmattan.
Wash your eyes regularly to avoid red eyes: As a result of the dusty weather, lots of dust will make its way into the eyes and to prevent any unpleasant eye defect, make sure you wash the eyes often.
Cover your nose and mouth with a mask: To avoid dusty substances from entering into your body system, use nose and mouth mask when going out daily to prevent catarrh and cough.
Reduce outdoor activities: Try as much as possible to avoid going out unnecessarily because, the more you go out, the more tendencies of you having cough and catarrh.
Wear clothes that keep you warm: Ensure to always put on clothes that are thick and can absorb both cold and wind because wearing light and skimpy clothes during this season can make one catch cold which can eventually lead to unforeseen illness.
Keep your windows and doors closed: Either you are at home or not, make sure that your doors or windows are tightly locked in order to avoid dust from coming in.
Always use moisturizers to prevent dry skin: One trait synonymous to harmattan is dry skin and to prevent this, you should always endeavor to apply moisturizing cream on your skin to keep it looking smooth and gorgeous.
Apply lip balm to prevent cracked lips: Aside from dried skin, the harmattan also takes its toll on the lips by making it dry, cracked up and sometimes wounded. To prevent this, you should have the lip balm with you at all times, either at home or on the road.
For asthmatic patients, try staying indoors at all times during this harmattan period and if it’s important that you go out, please ensure that you have your inhaler in your pocket or bag.
Let’s all abide by these aforementioned points and until the harmattan season passes, let’s stay safe. I wish you all my esteemed readers and voters a fulfilled Christmas and a prosperous new year in advance. (🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄)
