For the benefit of Steemit Promotion please read – or at least ReSteem - this post.
I have a number of friends on Facebook. Amongst them, there are people I consider friends but have not yet met – just like Steemit. There are friends that I have met because of Facebook, again, just like Steemit. And there are friends that I know from my real life – just like Steemit.
I’ve been promoting Steemit on my Facebook account and I’ve noticed a couple of strange things…
My Steemit posts don’t seem to be reaching the same numbers as my other posts do.
On FB I can post about my books, my stories and my life in general and I get a fairly good response. If I post about politics of course, it goes mad… but you know, that’s the current climate.
I post about Steemit and nothing… tumbleweed…
So, I copy and pasted one of my Steemit posts directly onto one of my political posts (just a political observation meme, don’t worry, I’m not getting all serious).
That paste-post got a few responses.
Some don’t believe Steemit is paying out real money, some believe you have to pay to get onto the site and some just don’t get it. The money being stuck in the ether by my choice, to power up my account and give voting power doesn’t seem to mean much.
If it walks like a duck, sounds like a duck, looks like a duck, it’s a duck and if Steemit looks too good to be true, then surely it must be…? Today I Learned sometimes you have to use a hammer to crack a walnut.
I thought I’d challenge my friends and followers then. I’ll write a series of posts for Steemit with half and half rewards. The half that isn’t powered up will sit in my wallet until my birthday (beginning of December, don’t worry… not too long). Just before the ‘big day’, I’ll withdraw ALL the money out and cash it in.
Added by Edit - I will purchase my gift from the excellent Peerhub site to prove Steem and Steemit can and DOES work in the 'real world'
With that money, I’ll buy myself a birthday present (something I’ve never done) and post pictures of the gift on Steemit, my (other) blog, Facebook and Twitter.
So, this sounds like me being selfish and I suppose it is – I mean, I don’t want to look like a cheapskate by buying myself a pack of second-hand gum, do I?
I’ll make a new tag for this - #experiment
I’m not going to load the bases and have every post of mine in the experiment because I wanted to use all my posts to Power Up and have done so since we had the choice (or close to it… I kept forgetting).
Yeah, I DO want to prove a point and I’m bloody-minded, tenacious and downright stubborn when it comes to supporting something I believe in and I bloody-well believe in Steemit!
So, Steemians and Steemers, please get behind this so I can get myself a brilliant birthday gift – so you don’t have to ;)
We’re all really interested to see how this turns out - @s0u1 thinks this gift will double as his gift – not a chance :p
One post a day, tagged as the experiment, I hope to be proven right (PLEASE) and if I don't get the response I hope for, I'll be tagging all the big-hitters so watch out @ned :p
Oh yeah... I have $10,030.040 STEEM POWER and no STEEM right now - here we go...

Facebook is throttling Steemit posts. This is what I recommend everyone do. Post the image and then add the link above the image along with the title and hashtags. I have been through this before, FB does not like sites that threaten their business.

You know I'm quite tech savvy Michelle, but until today I had not heard of Steemit or of Blockchains (whatever they are). When I looked on the website I could not see much info regarding how I receive real money, into my real bank account, and that must be the bottom line. A fin in the water could be a shark or a dolphin - lots of sharks out there, so I like to check things out. I'll see how it goes :)

Does this mean I can just up-vote this and not get you a BD present?
Looking at what @mikehood said your experiment no matter how much it makes is a good idea to persuade FB users.
I also think for a lot of FB users that have played many of the games with their only reward being to power-up, get points or even try to be bigger than others should treat this as a game in the same way.
This platform gives somewhere to show good quality content and promote yourself.
For photography unless you do events or weddings you are very unlikely to ever get paid for a photo so can't lose here.

No... I covered that. This is NOT going to be counted as your gift to me... nope, nuh-uh.

I think we will have to show some people that you can really get paid for them to want to join Steemit, but I think that just doing it for the money is missing part of the point. It's a social site like others. I want to be able to spend my Steem directly, but for now it's all getting powered up. I did use some to reimburse someone who sent me some guitar picks. I think we should encourage trading in Steem (as on Peerhub). It's a convenient currency.
BTW Is it me or does that Porsche look a bit like a duck?

Oooh! Good point... just a sec...
Yes, I agree that the money should be secondary to the social aspect and it certainly is for me, but some believe it's some sort of scam, can't believe the 'free money' angle...
A 'duck tail' is a spoiler on a Porsche 911 but I always preferred the 'whale tail' LOL

My steemit posts get zero visibility on facebook. The only one that saw widespread reach was when I shared the Rolling Stone article. Even then, I didn't post a link to my steemit profile in the comments, because I didn't want to get the post shadowbanned.
Facebook is playing a dangerous game.

Yeah, I think it's a case of someone believing he's too big to fail... history shows numerous examples of that theory in action... dot com... lol

Someone was saying that Facebook is deliberately limiting how many people can see Steemit posts. Can't remember where I saw it but it was recently.

hmm. I haven't signed in to facebook in a long while until just now. I know I've been sharing my posts there but I just looked through my log and they stopped being posted on the 6th? How strange. I'll need to troubleshoot and see if it was something with IFTTT. But prior to the 6th, my posts were appearing with absolutely NO feedback. No likes, comments...nothing! Which is very strange as my usual FB posts always got SOMETHING. hmmm...

How true, of all the people I've recommended, perhaps 2 or 3 have tried the platform. One thing I know is that at that time there was a lot of conflicting information making the top list of google searches and one was that you are required to invest.

I got several of my Facebook writer friends to try Steemit, using private messages with lots of explanation, but then they only posted once or not at all after joining. Not sure what's up with that. I'm hoping your plan works better than mine!

I have faith in Steemit, so yes, I would buy your account from you if you're not staying. I'm not promising you anything right now though. Things change fast and while I don't want to promise a price and feel that I overpaid, I also wouldn't want you to feel obliged to sell your account for a price that was way under it's value when you go.
