A short and funny story about the socialist "success" in Venezuela.

in story •  8 years ago

Incredibly even in circumstances where the country (Venezuela) is, there are people who still believe that this catastrophic ideology called socialism is good and "promising".

Ideology that has clearly failed in all the places that has touched, by the simple fact to "redistribute wealth equitably" there must apply force, which always brings misfortune.

I will not do a post talking about what is socialism or anything like that, only I'll tell you an anecdote, which clearly reflects what this ideology and its consequences mean.

This failure is evident even in the simplest stories that a citizen may have during a single day.

And a very curious anecdote was what happened in the match for the South American football playoffs for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The five-time champion of the world, Brazil were facing the humble Venezuelan team.

Brazil came as a heavy favorite to win the match, although the match was played on Venezuelan ground.

Although the level difference between a selection and another was something big, Venezuelans (despite all the losses) like to watch the matches of the football team, call it masochism or whatever you want.

Football is a great distraction for citizens, it is like a momentary escape of everything that happens inside the country and this was an opportunity to be distracted by this beautiful sport.

Millions of citizens simply got paralized to watch the football game, which besides being the national team, had the extra attractive to play against Brazil.

Venezuela came urged of a victory to score points in the table, while on the other hand Brazil came very comfortable and with a good run.

The game started and the Brazilian national team would soon take the lead. After 3 minutes, Gabriel Jesus put the 1-0 in favor of visitors taking advantage of an error from Venezuelan goalkeeper Dani Hernández.

It was a silly mistake to be honest, but the finishing from Gabriel Jesus was simply world class. (For those who know something about football, this player was recently signed for Manchester City in England, that good he is)

Despite being losing we could enjoy a nice match, Venezuela failed a couple of times while Brazil in the second half put the 2-0.

Everyone, including me, knew that probably would be the result or even more bigger. But the funny moment (but unsurprising) had nothing to do with the game.

At the minute 71, while Brazil had the ball in his possession, the "surprise" of the night would come.

The stadium, only the stadium, was completely left without electricity. I really thought the signal had fallen, but no, it was the fallen electricity in the stadium.

When I realized it, I did not know whether to laugh or annoy me.

What was for sure was the shame I felt for what was happening.

In my 20 years of life I have never seen the lights falling out during a playoff football game.

The screamings of the people against the government would soon arrive. (Something totally useless by the way)

In social networks the angry people started to comment about the situation and how embarrasing it was.

And how it was not going to bother us? The government of Venezuela has years giving away resources to other countries "most in need" while ours is going to misery.

By expropriations and state regulations, they took over the power of electric companies. Whenever a government expropriates a private company and becomes it public, the only thing you can expect is a completely inefficient and/or useless service.

And this happens in Venezuela with all services without exception (food, water, electricity, etc ...).

So the best socialist propaganda is not what their governments do but the seen yesterday during the football game.

The match was simply a reflection of the situation: Venezuela cluttered, in darkness and so deep down in the bottom (the bottom of the table as well).

Unfortunately some people will never learn Ricky. No matter how obvious the answer is.

It's such a shame I think, don't really understand how a so obvious failure is still alive among the world.

Don't worry next time it will work!
