Daddy's Little Killer (chapter 12)

              Chapter Twelve

Amy and Becky helped Maddie clean up the aftermath of the party.
Becky went to clean out Blue's cage which got a stern look from
Marcus.

"Mom, you know that is her chore."

"Oh honey, it's the day after her birthday. She deserves to enjoy one
day of no chores. I don't mind cleaning the cage."

"You're spoiling her," said Marcus.

"Don't you know by now that is what grandparents do?"

He chuckles and gives his mom a hug. "You're lucky I love you."

"I know you do and I love you too son. Now get out of here so we can
get this place cleaned up."

"Yes ma'am."

Marcus went about cleaning up the grill and the yard. He was waiting
for the crew to show up, for taking down the bounce house. He went
to unplug the pump. As he reached down for it something caught the
corner of his eye. He stood there with his mouth open. JT. was by the
back part of the yard, digging up where he had buried the snake.

"Young lady! Just what do you think you are doing? You have till the
count of three to put that shovel down."

She looked over at him, surprise on her face from not knowing he
was there.

"ONE!" "TWO!"

She dropped the shovel as he started walking towards her.

"If I catch you over here again you will be in very big trouble. Do you
understand?"

"Yes daddy."

Marcus dug up the snake and threw it into the garbage, thankful it
gets picked up today.

Kimmie was teaching Blue how to whistle when JT. came over to her.

"Kimmie, can I hold Blue?"

She turns to look at her baby sister. With a slightly worried look she
said, "Sure, here let me grab him out. Now remember to be gentle.
Don't squeeze him."

"Ok, I will be careful."

Kimmie watched as JT. ran her fingers down Blue's back. After five
minutes, Kimmie said it was time to put him back. She guided her
hands to the cage and JT. gently placed him inside.

Maddie could not believe Christmas was a few weeks away. Marcus
had been super busy at his shop and even took Aiden with him. Next
is winter break, so the kids will be home. He promised to take Aiden
with him each day.

"That boy loves getting greasy," said Marcus.

"Hmm, I wonder where he got that from!"

Marcus kissed her on the cheek and said, "You're welcome."

She laughs and swats Marcus on the butt. "Like father, like son!"

The third day of break, Kimmie went gift shopping with Amy.
Maddie was at work and so Becky stayed home to watch JT.

"Honey, grandma is tired. I'm going to go take a little nap. You
mind your manners and stay inside. You can watch cartoons."

"Ok, grandma."

An hour and a half later, Becky woke and went to make lunch for
her and JT. She poked her head into the living room only to find
JT. not there. She called out to her as she went to the girl's
bedroom. Jt. was sitting on the floor playing with her barbie doll.

"Lunch will be ready in a minute, ok?"

JT. shakes her head. Becky goes back into the kitchen. As she walks
by the living room she notices the bird cage is open. She goes to
close it and makes a mental note to ask JT. why it was open. As she
walks behind the couch, Becky sees a bunch of feathers on the floor.
She holds her breath as she looks up into the cage. Blue was not in
there. In a panic, she searches around the area. Between the wall
and couch was Blues body. She saw Blackie dart out from under the
couch. She picked up Blue and his head went limp. After she looked
him over, she found no chewed areas from Blackie. Sadness took
over as she thought about poor Kimmie. She is going to be crushed.

She places his body in a towel and into a bag. Then she called to JT.

"JT, do you know why Blues cage was open?"

"He wouldn't keep quiet. I wanted to hear my cartoons but he kept
making noise. I wanted to scare him to be quiet."

Stunned, Becky could not believe what she was hearing.

"You need to eat your lunch and march over to your room."
