in Lazy’s neighborhood
While Gem was explaining her idea for a fundraiser, Lazy was uneasily walking home from school. Lazy hates school. Now that that fact is out of the way, you can see why Lazy was not excited for her new class assignment. It didn’t help that today was the day that first semester report cards were coming home too.
Why the heck do report cards have to come today? Thought Lazy. a writing assignment and report cards, great. Lazy mainly hated school because she wasn’t good at most stuff. Put her in reading class, she’ll sleep for an hour. Put her in math class the only question she’ll get right is what time does that class end at. Put her in Gym, though, and she’ll be you star student. Having just got in to the volleyball team, Lazy put lots of effort into that, despite her name.
“Don’t get these grades up and you just might have to give volleyball.” her mother would say.
Lazy shuddered. No way was she losing volleyball, her favorite sport in the whole wide world.
But Lazy knew this week would be different. She had worked hard on her grades like they were volleyball. She even studied one afternoon. Not with friends. by herself. There, will be no D’s on this report card, Lazy smiled as she thought this. Heck, not even C’s! Well, maybe C’s. Lazy was having second thoughts on the ladder of that one. C’s were the norm for Lazy, so she couldn’t promise no C’s.
As soon as she got home, she ran in and ripped open her report card.
“Woah!” thought Lazy aloud as she stared at her report card.
“What!?” her mother said not so enthusasticly. She was used to hearing that before Lazy showed her and F-.
Today though, she saw an B+ in reading class.
“Lazy!? You… improved your grades!?” Her mom said looking at her A- in math and C+ in music.
“Yeah, are you proud of me?” Lazy asked.
“Proud!? I’m more than proud!” her mother planted a kiss on Lazy’s head.
Soon Lazy’s father came home and saw her grades. “This is very good Lazy.” her father said matching the beam on Lazy’s face.
“So I’m staying on the volleyball team right?” Lazy was already envisioning her next game.
“Well about that…” her father mumbled. “ there thinking about cutting sports from your school.” her dad said sadly. “Sorry hun.”
Lazy jaw dropped. And just like that, Lazy had her fundraiser. And surprisingly, it was going to help the school.
Mainly, the volleyball team.
