In the Indian Ocean, Maldives in its south west, Sri Lanka in the south and Indonesia in the south-east. India claims border with Afghanistan in the north-west. Its north is the Himalaya Mountains and the Indian Ocean is in the south. In the east there is the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea in the west. There are many big rivers in India. Ganga river is considered to be very sacred in Indian civilization. Other major rivers are Sindhu, Narmada, [Brahmaputra]], Yamuna, Godavari, Kaveri, Krishna, Chambal, Sutlej, Beas.
