Tonight I was driving home from work as usual. Traffic is heavy because we have quite a few annoying tourists that flock to the area to invade the few short months of enjoyable weather we have here.
As I was driving along a four lane road, I sighed as I looked at my speedometer and saw that once again someone doing well under the posted speed limit decided to selfishly clog up the passing lane trapping everyone else behind them. When the person in the right hand lane stopped to make a right hand turn, I changed lanes and prepared to pass the slow-poke. There were some cars ahead, but there was plenty of room. In amazement, I watched as the slow-poke actually sped up trying to block me from passing.
I had to speed up more than I wanted to, but I did make it in. I continued along when a couple minutes later slow-poke is suddenly riding on my ass like his tail was on fire. I am thinking what the heck is this person's problem, but tried to ignore the other driver so as not to inflame the situation. A little ways ahead, traffic in the left lane slowed down as some other person that did not know how to drive didn't see the point of using the median area provided for such turns. The driver who had been tail gating me, zipped around on the right and then intentionally swerved in front of me nearly hitting my car and slammed his brakes on.
A ways up ahead, I decided to get in the other lane because there's a traffic light that generally backs up more in the lane I was in. So I was driving along in a different lane now, and the other driver is still trying to play road rage games pulling up along side me and making gestures. I ignored it and just kept driving. Although I did steal a short glance at the other driver just to see what type of deranged lunatic would act that way. He was a middle aged wirey looking guy with a bunch of tatoos. He had unkempt red hair and a beard that looked like it was grown out of laziness and poor personal grooming habits rather than as a fashion statement.
He continued to stay along side until we entered a traffic rotary at which point he went all the way around the circle and back in the opposite direction. How crazy do you have to be to drive out of your way to continue trying wage some sort of personal war on the road with another driver who was merely trying to get around your slow-poke ass because you were oblivious to space, time, and dimension and were too selfish to move out of the passing lane? I'm thinking bat-shit crazy.
I was unnerved and a little angry about it at first, but when I began to think about it more, I realized that this guy is angry. Not at me, but at life. He reminds me of some of the protesters in Charlottsville in many ways. Now, there were people who were legitimately and exercising their right to peacefully express protest at the monument being removed. I'm not talking about those people.
But then, other people showed up. Angry people. People who were spoiling for a fight and were there for that purpose. KKK members, Neo-Nazis, BLM members, Antifada, etc. A literally basket of all the angry and/or mentally insane people in our society all in the same place at the same tine. You know nothing good is going to come of that.
These groups and the people in these groups all have the same problem. They are very angry. Why are they angry? My feeling is that these people are angry at life. Angry at themselves for being losers at life and even more angry at anyone that they perceive to be winning at life.
Just like the angry man I encountered while merely driving home from work. The angry driver just wanted to block everyone else's way, knowing that eventually someone would try to go around him, which he then used an excuse to let loose his craziness and anger. The hate groups have the same mentality. They are angry and pathetic people and wish to drag everyone else to their level. They can only win if we let them. Life cannot and should not be viewed through a prism of race and other external features. Only the true racists and bigots make everything about race.
Although the incident today upset me, in the end, I win. I have a great life and people I love. Great family, friends, a good job, and so many things to be thankful for. The enraged other driver, just like these groups spread hate and violent, are still the losers. No matter how many statues they vandalize or destroy. No matter how many people they assault or even kill.
They cannot win and we must not let them win. The normal good people of this country of all colors, races, etc. must unite and stand up against the crazy violent lunatics. We must demand that these people be locked in a cell when they incite violence and when they commit crimes against our fellow citizens. It's not a racial thing - it's a sane people versus mentally ill violent psychopaths thing.

I have experienced the same, some people really are just angry and hurt that the world doesn't dance to their tune. This may be indeed be a form of mental illness, the danger we face as a society today is that the lunatics are running the asylum of public discourse and many of them would rather see the world burn than admit they might not be the best and the brightest. Nice post!
