The Orange Dress

She was standing in a crowded bus. It was speeding. It had been a hectic day and she was really tired but did not get a seat to sit and travel. Her house was in the suburbs and so she had to battle it out daily, on the crowded bus. Yet, she did not mind because she loved talking to people and observe the colors of life.

The bus stopped at a signal. The city lights were slowing coming to life and the roads were beginning to crowd with evening shoppers.
She looked out of the window and saw shops with colorful dresses which the mannequins wore.

Then she spotted it. The orange dress. It was so colorful that no one would miss it. She sighed. The bus moved on. She knew she could not afford it. Her salary was just enough to help her brother run the family. It had been hard ever since their father had passed away.

She went to her house after buying a few vegetables. They were poor but her brother and herself never wanted their mother to feel that they lacked anything in life. So, they never expressed their concerns or even any wish to buy stuff like the other young people of their age. They had become mature all of a sudden.

Coming out of her reverie, she entered her house. She saw a packet on the dining table. Her mother was smiling and handed her the packet. She opened it and saw the very same orange dress. She was stunned.

She looked questioningly at her mother and she replied that her brother had bought it for her with his salary as a present for her and came sooner along with his friend and went out again.

It took her minutes to understand what had happened.

She wondered if her mind had been read by God and he had decided to present her with this beautiful dress. She knew then that she was not alone, after all. She thanked the Almighty and wore the pretty dress to her office, the next day.
