The Theory of Reverse Slavery

Just like a paradox, one day you’re reading a book which name you can’t remember but ironically its ideas you’ll probably never forget. Funny how that works.

The story was as shocking as it gets, it revolved around an evil genius plan to bring slavery back to the modern world. It was like reading a prequel to 1984 and other dystopian novels, only this time you’re invited to take a peek behind the scene to watch it all unravel before your eyes.

It was scary, but not because how surprisingly outrageous the entire process was. What's terrifying is that at no time you could really say that this was something entirely unimaginable.

When Strange Becomes Familiar

The story takes place in the beginning of last century at a time where monarchies were starting to lose total dominance over their population. The ruling class was growing desperate for finding way to re-brand slavery as something positive, and more importantly, something socially acceptable.

But how can you convince the newly emancipated public to spend their lives in servitude again?

The answer was as simple as it was surprising: In reverse. This way no one will see it coming.

They started looking for a popular slogan to sneak that enslaving machine behind, and more importantly they made it appear as if it was a necessity for “the common good”.

This genius little trick didn't only divert the public from revolting, but instead they did the exact opposite. They fell for that enslaving exercise and fell for it bad. Hell, some even began to believe that it’s their duty.

Soon after that, they would start to shun everyone who dared to question it.

And just like that, with a sway of tongue they had half the battle won.

The Theory of Reverse Slavery

Alt Text

As all reverse-engineering strategies go, you must start from the end goal towards the present situation.

Suppose you’re a big fan of the 1700s and you want to bring slavery back to the internet era.

If you’ve told people that you want them to work 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year and you want them to give you the 100% of the fruit of their labor, do you think they would accept that?

Hell, no.

Instead what you should do is what the ruling class have always done, implement the everlasting strategy of the frog and the boiling pot.

You search for some moth-eaten despotic society that was efficient in turning free-willed humans into dedicated servants and you take a page right out of their playbook.

You replicate that exact old system, only this time you invent a new word so that no one can add two and two together.

Let’s say you call that system Paxes.

Every single ruling class in history of the world have had some kind of equivalent system, whether it’s a monarchy, a theocracy or a military dictatorship or what have you.

You figure it's all a scam, huh? All them folks? They're just wrong?

Rustin Cohle: Oh yeah! Been that way since one monkey looked at the sun and told the other monkey, "He said for you to give me your fucking share."True Detective, The Locked Room.

No matter which era you came in this world, you’re bound to give the fruits of your labor to the ruling class. Unless of course, you’ve been born into the ruling class.

That I’m afraid is an absolute guarantee.

And the other guarantee is that your contemporaries are going to attack if you you question if those fruits are actually going to Gods above, or if the ruling class would keep them for themselves.

“What do you mean you don’t pay paxes for the glory of Rome? Do you want a glory-less Rome, is that what you want?”

This is how it always goes.

So yeah, you don’t need to invent the wheel. Just take something that was tried and proven and implement it again, and guess what? It would appear as the most normal thing in the world.

After all, the most important lesson in history is that we never really learn from it.

You’re still flipping through the pages, but you sense a certain discomfort in chest, cognitive dissonance is hitting you and it’s hitting you hard.

You’re stuck between what your brain is processing and what you don’t want to believe. Thoughts that are too uncomfortable to entertain.

Your friends, your mother even your grandma’s voice are getting into your head. Social pressure is a ghost that's way too close for comfort.

You’re hesitating whether to put the book down or continue reading. You figure you'll let it rest for now and you decide to make some tea. The water in the kettle is boiling though you can’t hear the whistle.

The voices in your head are getting louder and louder.

And they’re all say the exact same thing:

Who will build the roads? Who?

History repeats itself. Maybe the tools are different, but the approach is still the same.

Still even if you try to play a false game, there will come a moment in time when the truth will be revealed. Then a revolutionary process turns everything upside down... until we slowly evolve backwards to where we came from. Life moves in waves and circles.

I think one of the most valuable beliefs is to be true to yourself. You're able to lie to everybody that surrounds you, but you won't ever be able to lie to yourself...

Great read, Adil. As always :-) Good to have you back!

Thanks Marly! I'm glad to be back :)

You're so right you know? The most important thing is to stay true to oneself, and it's more fun too haha.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

An exquisite piece you have here.
Humans have always been enslaved in one form or the other according to the most suitable form available for such an era. Prehistorically, humans by brute force were enslaved and made to act in the direct opposite of their wishes.
Today however, we have become civilised, brute force wouldn't just work. So another method of enslavement has been born, "the common good"!!
Isn't taxes just another way, just another method of enslavement, of ripping poor people of their means. Some may debate taxes are used for the common good, for development. But is it not just another means to enrich the ruling class?...There is ofcourse no silver in the "paxes" lining.

"There is of course no silver in the "paxes" lining."

Haha this is where I forgot to put a "Disclaimer: Any resemblance is strictly coincidental" ;)

Just kidding.

And you're absolutely right btw, the intent to enslave humans has always existed and it may be too "optimistic" to think that it's no longer the case.

Anyways, I'm glad you liked this post man. Thanks for the awesome comment!

Haha...you got a sense of humor i truly fancy man.

Very good post @the-alien, I like the contents of your article, because I really like to read tentanng history. Because I think that, with us often reading the history of the past, it can be a very good motivation for us and we can know about what happened in the past. Thank you for sharing and hope you will be more successful to work ... :)

Thanks you @reynakarina! I wish you a lot of success as well!

I agree, reading history always gives an added dimension to things and opens the mind a little more :)

nice teeth in the first picture

Haha I haven't even noticed :P

Well, that's the easy way, isn't it? To be told what to do... how to do it... and when... and some of us humans love that easy way too damn much.

Build a cage, make it look like something else, something shiny if possible, make it comfortable enough, offer some perks inside and then make everybody curious about it.

It's going to be a trend, then the norm, and finally a whole culture. And those few who realized what it was... well, they're gonna be chased out of the community, they're gonna be at fault or crazy or heretics...

And since you were speaking of books, I just remembered about Leisure: The basis of culture. But I guess that's not gonna be a default item inside that cage, right?

Loved your article, man. :)

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

This:

Build a cage, make it look like something else, something shiny if possible, make it comfortable enough, offer some perks inside and then make everybody curious about it.

So awesomely described.

You're right about the culture side too. And there's more, it seems like this generation is lacking a counter-culture aspect. There isn't many writers and artists anymore who question where the culture is going, even comedians are different from a couple decades ago,

I haven't read that book to be honest, but maybe I should check it out.

Thanks for the awesome comment man.

Интересная история.

спасибо

I think now days it’s easier than it was in the past to break into the ruling class(upper class?) but even then so many in the ruling class are stuck in the same situation. Our culture tells us to push forward and keep pushing. Working 9 hrs a day, why not 10? Getting payed 10 million a week, why not 20? Own a car, why not two? It just goes on and on. In a society like ours so many people toil to reach a point only to find another point in front of them.

Back in the 1950s people dreamed of 4 day or even 3 day work weeks. They toiled for that but somewhere we got caught in the age old trap of never being happy. Not taking time to enjoy life just to rush and push towards some glamorous Ferrari filled end. I don’t even think the people who set the trap are alive anymore.

Oh man, I kinda wish we stuck with that 3 day work week dream, many people would be happier I assume. Those who want more would be free to do so, but in general I guess there would be less stress all over.

That's an excellent point. I don't think anybody sets traps for generations to come, though there is the same Modus Opernadi among certain types of politicians. They may live in different continents, in different eras even but they share the same traits.

And if you ask their populations to describe them, they may even come up with the exact same words: Dishonest, corrupt, manipulating..etc.

Thanks for the great comment!

hay .. buddy. your articles dance nice. i like your articles. shoot you clay my article sometimes interesting for you my article article

a very good history after I read from your article it remembers me in the history of antiquity. thank you for sharing, and I always follow your vote. Greetings from me

I'm glad you liked it!

Thanks btw!

Inspiring history, I am interested in reading this article, it adds insight to me,
Slavery in this modern age, is it still there?

Thanks Adson. It's about a book actually, and it's meant to take place in the future.

Was this a question for the libertarians?

Who will build the roads? Who?

About the slavery subject, I think that's all in the past. It could certainly be a fun read, but that's it. What is the book you are reading by the way? I would like to take a look into it.

Hey Dedicated guy, the roads was a joke that's all. In the next post it'll become clear how everything ties up (minus the roads of course, just wanted to close with a joke and obviously not a good one)

Anyways, thanks for the comment! :)

I asked because that's a typical question when discussing libertarianism. I was ready to put an excellent meme about the subject :P

nice writing...
keep it up........

Thank you! :)

pressure pressure pressure from everywhere it just hit the mind we can't even live anymore

Yeah, sometimes the best is just to take some time and disconnect.

Hope you're having a great day!

now that we see authoritarianism coming back in full force things are wide open. we can clearly see our delusions about the victory of democracy, the victory of 'capitalism' in this sham competition against 'communism' in the 20th century... all these petty and pathetic delusions we inculcated ourselves with, and now we stand staring into the abyss realizing that history is not transgressed, is never transgressed, that every day and year we face the socio-politico-scientific-economic-artistic question of how civilization is supposed to be and advance. the dystopians and fear mongers are having their day and thriving, but we've all gotta ride the wave and get over to a new dawn on the other side... and only future generations will know how long that will take or how benighted the journey will be

peace

That's true, only future generations will know how. But still, we can have a great ride if we ignore the fearmongers and the us-vs-them speech they keep feeding us. :)

Preach!

Haha thanks

nice style..

Thanks @cariglee

This is call for rebellion!!!

Haha let's hope not :P

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it!

Interesting blog post and point of view. Have you read the Platos - Republic you should check that out! I see the modern world pretty great place to live compared to centuries before there are a lot of things that could be still much better. If you look at the big picture this is the best time in history so far thanks to technology!

This was a blast into my head 😆
But it's so true!
Like some people said, you have to stay true to yourself!

Keep the good work!

Cheers,
