In ancient times in a fishing village of Air Manis Beach in Padang area, West Sumatra there lived a widow named Mande Rubayah with a son named Malin Kundang. Manday Rubayah loves and indulges Malin Kundang. Malin is a diligent and obedient child.
Mande Rubayah is old, he is only able to work as a cake seller to meet the needs of him and his only child. One day, Malin fell ill. The harsh pain, his life almost floated but eventually he could be saved-thanks to his mother's endeavors. After recovering from his illness he became more and more loved. They are mother and son who love each other. Now, Malin is an adult he asked permission to his mother to go abroad to the city, because at that time there was a large boat docked at the Beach Sweet Water.
"Do not Malin, the mother is afraid to happen something with you on the ground there just settle here, accompany mother," said her mother sad after hearing the wishes of Malin who want to wander.
"Mother calm down, nothing will happen to me," said Malin while holding his mother's hand. "This is Mrs. chance, because not necessarily once a year there is a big ship docked on this beach, I want to change our fate Bu, please allow" pleaded Malin.
"All right, mother let me get back, mother will always wait for you son," his mother said, crying. Although with a heavy heart finally Manday Rubayah allow her son to leave. Then Malin was provided with rice wrapped in banana leaf for seven packs, "For your supplies on the journey," he said, handing it to Malin. After that Malin Kundang departed to the overseas land leaving his mother alone.
The days went by, a day that was slow for Mande Rubayah. Every morning and afternoon Manday Rubayah looked out to sea, "How far have you sailed?" he asked silently as he continued to look at the sea. He always prayed for his son to be safe and return fast.
Some time later if there is a ship that comes closer he always asks about his son. "Did you see my son, Malin? Is he okay? When did he come home?" he asked. But every time he asked the crew or the captain never got an answer. Malin never sent any goods or messages to his mother.
For years Mande Rubayah kept asking but there was no answer until his body got older, now he started to stoop. One day Manday Rubayah got word from the skipper used to bring Malin, the captain gave happy news to Mande Rubayah.
"Mande, do you know, your son is now married to a beautiful girl, the daughter of a very wealthy nobleman," he said at the time.

Mande Rubayah was very happy to hear that, he always prayed for his son to be safe and immediately returned to visit him, a ray of joy began to reappear. But for months since he received Malin's news from the captain, Malin never came back to see him.

They greeted him happily.
As the ship began to dock, a pair of young men stood on the bridge. Their clothes are sun-drenched. Their faces brightly decorated with a smile because happily greeted with merrier. Manday Rubayah also joins the ship. His heart was pounding hard at the sight of the young man who was on the ship, he was very sure that the young man was his son, Malin Kundang. Have not had time to welcome the village elders, Mrs. Malin first approached Malin. She hugged him tightly, afraid of losing her child again.
"Malin, my son, you're my son right?" he said, holding back sobs for joy, "Why did not you let me know so long?"
Malin was shocked to be embraced by the elderly old woman in rags. He could not believe that the woman was his mother. Before he could think of talking, his beautiful wife spit it out saying, "This bad lady is your mother? Why the hell did you lie to me!" he said sarcastically, "Did not you say your mother was a noble like me ?!"
Hearing his wife's spicy words, Malin Kundang immediately pushed her mother to roll over into the sand, "Crazy woman! I'm not your son!" he said roughly.
Mande Rubayah does not believe in his son's behavior, he sits down and says, "Malin, Malin, my son, I'm your mother, kid! Why are you like this kid ?!" Malin Kundang does not care about his mother's words. She will not admit her mother. He was ashamed of his wife. Seeing the woman shuffle to hug her leg, Malin kicked him and said, "Hi, crazy woman! My mother is not like you! The old lady was lying in the sand, crying, and hurt.

The people who saw her were stunned and then went home. Mande Rubayah collapsed and lay alone. When he realized, the Beach Sweet Water was deserted. She saw Malin's ship getting away. He did not think that Malin had loved to do so. His heart was sore and sore, and his hand was raised to the heavens. He then prayed with a pained heart, "Yes, God, if he is not my son, I'm sorry for his actions, but if he is my son named Malin Kundang, I ask your justice, O God!" she said sadly, crying. Soon the weather in the middle of the sea was bright, suddenly turned dark. The rain suddenly came down heavily. Suddenly there came a great storm, hitting the ship Malin Kundang. There was a thunderous bolt of lightning. Just then the ship was shattered. Then the waves brought to the beach.
The next morning as the morning sun appeared on the eastern horizon, the storm had subsided. At the foot of the hill visible pieces of the ship that has become a stone. That's Malin Kundang's ship! Looks like a stone that resembles a human body. That is the body of Malin Kundang a son of lawlessness who is cursed by his mother to stone for being ungodly. In between the rocks it swims anchovies, mullets, and fish tengiri. It is said that the fish comes from fragments of his wife's body that continues to look for Malin Kundang.
Until now if there are big waves hitting rocks like ships and humans, it sounds like a howl of human screams, sometimes it sounds like people wailing to regret themselves, "Ampun, Bu ...! Ampuun!" it is said that the voice of Malin Kundang, a rebellious child to his mother... resteem...power SBD...
