Cowardice 1

Once every millenia, a big event named "Cowardice" is held in an ancient arena. It's typically just a bunch of games about capturing an enemy with his head in the line.

"Hail mark!", an official shouted.

That is an actual salute, a sign that the game is starting. Everyone has mixed emotions on what is about to happen. Some tend to feel an excitement for the game, some feel fear and some seems unassured of what to feel. It's simply caused by the beauty of the diversity of such a game.

Anyone is allowed to join as long as you have a 'God' as a sponsor. These 'Gods' totally care about nothing but to have a player to play with their names on them.

Well, that's how it is. The player stakes his head, the 'God' stakes his name. Even a fictional work like this should reveal how rotten the world is right?

Well, back to the story. As far as I know, a hero should always be in every story, or should it be?

This is Grunt, a common worker from a human kingdom. He reached "Cowardice" with his hard work and dedication. Studying, training and working his way to gain trust of a 'God'. It took him decades before he was able to be qualified for such a game.

It is rare for humans to be able to enter such a game, since humans live shorter and are much weaker than other beings. In this world, humans are nothing but pigs.

With his 'spear of a thousand suns', he braces his self for the actual starting signal.

"Shadow le' anyo", that is what the moderator of the game is called. It is a mindless jelly fish that knows nothing but it's job, to moderate a "Cowardice game".

This would be the first game for the event. This part of the event is more of like a preliminary to cut down the number of contestants in a large scale. At this part of the event, contenders are grouped in 20 to 30's or sometimes even 40's.

There is nothing fair about this game, the only objective is to be the one last standing on the block you're into.

In Grunt's block, he will compete with a minotaur, a half cow half human being that has connection with mazes and earthquakes.

A snake hair, some kind of depressed woman that was been cheated by her lover and decided to wear a wig with snakes on it instead of hair.

Three ogres, 2 onslaughts and maybe around 20 goblins. I'm quite not sure, but I think these goblins are just here to 'troll'.

"Sutato!", the shout for the start of the game. With that shout, the crowd went "wooooooooh", indicating the hype for the event.

In Grunt's head, things are really complicated, from the measure of the minotaur and the onslaught, to the danger of the snake head and the number of the goblins.

Grunt is one of the three human participants in the event, with more than three thousand in contenders, humans are not treated seriously.

As if humans were nothing but just dusts in the playing field.

For a common head, such profile could be taken seriously as an insult, but for Grunt, it is a blessing.

In such a big game, energy and presence has a big factor to play. With little presence comes more chance of being unseen, along with such chance is the opportunity to save.

The onslaught teamed up against the minotaur which was a big mistake the onslaughts did. With one swoop, the onslaught helmets were shuttered along with their onslaught skulls.

Meanwhile, these goblins seems to be smarter than expected, they grouped into two of 10's. With the objective of attacking the human and the snake hair.

Grunt stood still on his ground. He knew that the very point he was standing is the most advantageous point in the arena in that time.

He was also aware that 10 goblins were about to attack him.

"Aguula Taara!", the goblins shouted meaning "attack", which is a language that I just made up.

Grunt readies for defense, with shield in front and spear behind.

The shield in front would protect him from unexpected attacks in his sight. The spear behind would give him range and space to be able to attack if needed. It was his basic stance, a stance he used as a foundation for his countless wins.

"Agagagagaga", the goblins approaching him were crying.

Three in his left and two in his right with the other goblins behind. In common logic, such tactic the goblin's has made should be practical for a 10 versus one. But Grunt didn't made it this far without knowing how to fight such a basic tactic.

"Bom!", Grunt hits his shield with his spear causing a really irritating sound.

With the goblins having such large ears, the sound made from Grunt's shield was received by the goblins like a shock of thunder. It's thunder 10 times closer to your ears.

The 10 goblins planked in the ground covering their ears.

Meanwhile in a nearby scene, the snake hair was able to defeat the 10 goblins that has targeted her. Now, she was able to make the minotaur into stone. Only half of the minotaur, but it is enough to make the minotaur sit on his buns.

Accidentally, the minotaur sits and falls into the goblins who were in pain from the sound made from Grunt's shield.

One of the ogre finds a chance to attack the snake head from behind. The ogre plans to eat the snake head's head with one bite. But instead, the ogre was bitten by the snakes on the snake head's head.

The snakes' poison was strong, in an instant, it made the ogre delirious making the ogre loss it's balance and fall out the arena along with the snake hair in it's arm.

The outsides of the arena have been set up and armed with spikes, fire, acid, grinding wheels, laser beams, dinosaurs, pirates, thieves, Osama Bin Ladens, well you get it, I wouldn't let anyone live if they fall outside the arena.

With everything defeated and Grunt remaining, he won the first game. Or so you and Grunt thinks?

There were supposed to be two ogres in the arena, where could be the other one be?

The last ogre was waiting and hiding for Grunt to come at him and attack Grunt while Grunt is off guard.

With the moment the ogre was waiting for has come, the remaining ogre attacked.

"Now it's all ogre!",the ogre shouted with an open mouth with the intention of eating Grunt whole.

But of course I just wanted to make the "it's all ogre" joke to make impressions. What do you think? It's funny right? Haa? Haa?--Hahaha, so much for fooling around.

Such an attack is nothing for Grunt, Grunt reacted to the attack and pointed his spear to the ogre's chest.

A usual ogre has really tough skin impossible to be penetrated by common blades.

But Grunt's 'spear of a thousand suns' is not your average spear. It is a spear forged from a Tanklas' teeth on an immeasurable heat from the flames of hell.

"Spuuuurttt", the spear slid through the ogre's chest.

Grunt didn't have to use any force to repel the attack, all he needed to do was to make sure that his spear was in the right angle for it to hit the ogre's chest.

Grunt shoved the ogre's body aside with little effort and pulled his spear.

Grunt's game in his block has been officially over. With almost nothing spent, it was an easy win.

Grunt sits on the same spot where he slayed the ogre to rest. Since his game is now over, there is no more to do but to wait for the next game.
