True Story Life Experience - Parental Advisory: Hit & Run (Original True Life Story)

in story •  7 years ago  (edited)

Disclaimer: I have chosen to write about this story since for some reason it just keeps replaying in my mind randomly throughout the past couple of days. If you are squeamish or don't want any painful imagery you want to imagine, please check out any of my other more user-friendly posts with music, art, poetry and more.

It was about 6pm, with still a bit visible, dim light outside seeping through the grey clouds, and it was raining heavily. I was at my old job in the middle of the city, working as a desk clerk in a government assisted apartment for the previously homeless who were having a second chance at life.

My desk faced directly the double sliding doors entrance which was just 7-8 feet away from the big intersection street since our building was on the corner of this intersection. People were still driving home from getting off work late and the sounds of cars were a constant with the heavy rainfall.

After looking up at a bunch of pedestrians crossing from the opposite street across from us over to our sidewalk area, I looked down again to continue filling out an incident report. In the middle of my report, I hear a big diesel powered pick up truck with big wheels make a right turn from the street adjacent to our building, turning right onto the street where our entrance is. The truck was driving slow and I just start to hear this blood curdling scream that pierces through the window paneling...

I look up and I just see this single lady laying on the ground in between the front and back wheels, being crushed and rolling sideways as the massive pick up truck slowly drives over her. I was completely shocked because she was still screaming and I was immediately imagining her entire skeletal frame being broken, bone by bone.

People on the side walk rushed to her aid as the driver in this massive pick up track obliviously begins to pick up speed and keeps driving forward onto the next stoplight. I call 911 quickly and report the incident just in case no one else has yet. Then I leave my front desk and hurry outside.

It is still pouring rain and the lady is now surrounded by witnesses, passerbys, we can all hear the ambulance on their way and the police station is just minutes away from our location as well. The lady looked to be between mid 40s, early 50s. It was truly a sad situation, she was in complete excruciating pain. And just up the street, I could still see the pick up truck now being purposely blocked by other drivers who had witnessed the event and had overcame him and parked in front and behind him so he wasn't able to leave.

Apparently, once the police and paramedics got all the witnesses' reports, and the victim was transported to the hospital, it turns out that indeed the driver was completely unaware that he had hit and ran over the lady. Due to the heavy rainfall, it had obscured his vision and even worse so, it was most likely due to his faulty windshield wipers. As he turned to make that right, he didn't even notice the green Walking Sign that was given to the woman who was in her legal rights to cross the street safely and she was walking directly in front of his turning vehicle. The man just continued to drive forward catching her from the front of his grilled bumper, smashing her downward and driving over her helpless rag doll of a body, as she rolled beneath the truck's chassis/base frame. He kept on about his business as if her body was just a small undulation in the road. How terribly saddening!

Needless to say, the guy was rightfully arrested for negligent driving, hit and run, and something along the lines of failure to fix his windshield wipers, and his pick up truck was retrieved by the city compound tow truck. I don't know if the lady survived, but I couldn't get that vivid image of her being crushed and rolling around screaming at the top of her lungs out of my head. And the reason why I probably am thinking about it is because at least 83% of Hamburg's summer has been filled full of rainy cold days, and the sounds of the passing cars out front of my apartment while I am writing a Steemit post is equivalent to the same situation I was in when this tragic and unfortunate incident had occurred. I hope she made it out alive and healed back to fullness and that her condition wasn't too severe to where she lost her life.

Please make sure to drive safe, at all times, especially in the rain and make sure you keep your eyes on the road and that your window shield wipers are fully capable and effectively functional.

Oh that's messed up, hope that lady survived. Our mind is capable of easing down a weight of traumatic events, writing helps a lot with that. No wonder your intuition was telling you to write it down, it's a self therapeutic process.

Yes indeed bro, I have so many things I want to write down, and truly not enough time. Thanks always for your nice comments, this was definitely therapeutic.

You are welcome B.

That's a pretty traumatic thing to witness . It's good to write it down and the thoughts out of your head. Hope it doesn't bother you for much longer <3

Thank you for your kind reply. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I can definitely get past it, but it is just one of those things that seems to stay connected to rain and cars. I have other traumatic things I have witnessed that I will share later on for sure. Appreciate you reading this

I too hope the woman survived. If I saw this it would replay in my head too. Hopefully writing it down is helping you to cope.
We need to be kind to our mind. Please take care my friend.

Thank you very much, I completely agree my friend. I hope all is well with you. I am keeping my mind in peace and treating it kindly indeed. Please do the same :) I hope you're continuing with your nice poetry. Whenever I get time I will definitely read some.

Damn real visceral.

Thanks for the comment and reading. I had to look up what visceral meant again.

visceral |ˈvɪs(ə)r(ə)l|
adjective
1 relating to the viscera: the visceral nervous system.
2 relating to deep inward feelings rather than to the intellect: the voters' visceral fear of change.

According to the second definition, indeed it sparked deep feelings about life death, uncertainty and circumstantial danger that can happen on a normally calm day, be it sunny, windy, cloudy or rainy.

😊

Its strange how we associate certain , sights / smells / sounds / with traumatic events , or even good events ! Even hearing a song or smelling something cooking can bring back a flood of past memories that we had long since forgotten about ! Try to just think about good happy memories when this happens , it will help for sure ! Best of luck to you !👍👍👍

Thank you my friend, this was indeed traumatic but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the rain. But I often reminisce on deep situations that help remind me that life is precious as it is shortly fleeting, and death is just as swift in presence.

So true ! And your very welcome!👍👍👍
