Innocent Prisoner.jpg
Most times in life, some persons suffers the fate of others while the culprit continue living unnoticed. Some have suffered in prison due to lack of bad Judiciary system. Before sentence are passed, properly investigation are not carried out and the Judge gives his/her verdict based on personal assumption.

Let me take you to the story land.
James was a mechanic in the city of Lagos, he works 14 hours a day tirelessly to ensure he puts food on the table. He is married with two kids whom he wanted to give the best education money can afford even though he made less.
On the 13th of October 1997, on his way to his mechanic workshop. James was arrested at the train terminal by Anti-drug agency for partaking in drug smuggling and murder of the agency officer sent to apprehend him at the border.
James looking confused, given no room to defend him rather was told to keep mute for whatever he says will be used against him in court and he is entitle to a lawyer and if he couldn't afford one, the state will assign one to him.

At the year he was arraign, mobile phone was not digitalised which his family does not have one, he was thrown to prison amongst other notorious law defaulters, little or no investigation was done in James case. He was interrogated by the Detectives and officers of Anti-drug agency at different occasion which he told them that this was a mistaken of identity. I am no drug lord neither the person you seek, he said. Response from one of the Detective on the case says, he has gotten use to such statement which was regularly used by defaulters to prove their innocence.

James couldn't afford a lawyer and the one assign to him by the state, ask him to accept the charges so as to reduce the sentence. James looking perplex and pearl couldn't do much, he lack the finance to get a lawyer and no family member was able to come to his aid. Standing on his decision that he will never succumb to no crime he didn't commit or partake it. He was charge to court within 48 hours.

With the matter being presented in court and no defense on his side and James was given a 10 years sentence. He was soon transfered to jail.
James was just a mere citizen going about his daily life with no thought attached to crime, he couldn't afford to let his wife struggle alone for his daughters but nothing he can do now, he can't win a case against the state. In Prison, he was bitter that a state which should have protected him turn around and sent him to prison for being a double-ganger with a Drug baron.

The case of James is one of those, innocent people suffer in prison not having idea of the crime.

In our daily lives either at work or home, whenever anyone stands accused. Never be too quick to pass judgement without timing valuable time for a proper investigation.
To be continue......
