Sonya took in the views of the strange city as she made her way towards the bridge that the mirror had shown her. She had seen a river in the distance shortly after she left the coffee shop, and after making her way to a river-walk, she had noticed the bright lights of the bridge in the distance. She was glad that she was used to navigating large cities, but she also felt a bit uncomfortable walking the familiar feeling streets again. Living in the city was one of the factors that had driven her to ending her short-lived life.

She was only 25 years old when she stepped off the bridge. It wasn't a spur of the moment decision. She had been thinking about it for quite awhile. It was the same bridge that her ex had stopped her on to talk about ending their 3 year relationship. It was the same bridge she drove across every weekday to get to her publishing job. It was the same bridge she had seen a young man jump off of a few months before, and she suspected there had been more victims before that. She figured it was the best place to end things, and that maybe she wouldn't be alone. Maybe she would join the other victims and they could talk about all of their fuck-ups and pity stories together.

She never expected that her jump would result in some sci-fi movie job.

She made it to the bridge, and slowly walked to the middle of it. When she got there, she carefully went over to the railing and looked over the edge. There was no glowing orange spiral in the waters below, and she wondered if she was even at the right bridge. Some bridges tend to just look the same. She was about to shrug it off and leave, when she felt the familiar warmth of the mirror. She slid her hand in her pocket to retrieve it, and as soon as her fingertip grazed the top of the decorative metal, she heard a familiar voice. It was the voice of the being who had given her this job, and it said one word...

"Jump"

She quickly pulled her hand back out of her pocket, leaving the mirror where it was. "WHAT?!" she yelled audibly, so much that people crossing the bridge stopped to look at her, before continuing on their way. She covered her mouth, and hid behind one of the bridge supports. Did the mirror voice just tell her to kill herself a second time? Was her job already done? What was even the point of all of this then?

She remembered the orange spiral in the reflection earlier, and realized it did kind of look like a portal. Maybe there was some sort of hidden trick to this. She took a deep breath, and walked back over to the railing. She leaned over and took a good look. There still wasn't anything there. She pulled the mirror out and tried to get it to reflect the water below. Score! She could see the orange spiral in the reflection. So, there must be a reason to jump. Either way, she was supposed to be dead anyways. What was there to lose? She found herself thinking this statement a lot.

How hard could it be to jump a second time? She looked around to make sure no one was looking, and stepped over the railing. She stood there for a bit, staring down into the rough waters. Shouldn't she be more scared right now? Why did she feel almost calm? Was it simply easier the second time? She remembered her last moments of awareness after she had jumped before. The jump hadn't actually killed her, but had injured her enough that she couldn't swim. She hadn't felt the urge to fight anyways, and had simply inhaled water, and that's when a sense of euphoria came over her. She had felt calm, as everything turned to black.

"Here goes nothing" she whispered, as she let go of the railing and fell forwards. Her adrenaline rushed as she fell towards the dark water, and suddenly she was engulfed in orange light. The feeling of constant falling made her dizzy, and she blacked out.

To Be Continued...
