(Bulls testicle) Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout - Wynkoop (Strange Beer review)

in strange •  7 years ago

My friend came ot my house a while ago with a pretty special beer he brought from Colorado : A stout brewed with a Colorado "delicacy" : bull testicle.

Hmmmm, I said to myself. But eh, I have to try that while it's in front of me. Can't be that bad if they sell it, right? So I did drink my half of the can and it was not that bad.

The base beer was pretty good. A medium body with a nice head. Good amount of roasted malt and caramel/sweet notes and average bitterness.

The Rocky Mountain Oysters brought some kind of a slightly salty taste. Maybe the cure it before using it to prevent weird bacterias to go in the beer? There might have been some kind of meaty taste, but it might have been a "placebo" taste since I knew what I was drink. So, the bull's balls didn't bring that much flavor, but I was not such a big fan of what it was better. what it brought to the beer.

I'm still happy to have tried that. It's something you don't see everyday.

Stay tuned, I have some other weird beer I should write about soon ;)

That is definitely an odd combo. The only "meat" infused beer I've ever had was Rouge Brewery's Bacon Maple Ale. You might enjoy that a little more than the teste beer.

That sure sounds way more appetizing! Was it good? I might be able to find it next time I go to the US. We don't have Rogue in Quebec.

I tasted an iceland beer in a pub, here, that was made with malt smoked with sheep droppings. And I have to say, I king of liked it :O !

Rougue Brewery is from Oregon but they distribute pretty widely. Anything from there is really good.

I've had some of their products before, but not the one you talked about. There's a lot of them in Vermont, the closest state to me
