The US empire is in it's economic decline. There's a nice theory called the 7 stages of empires. It says that after the economic expansion it comes war fatigue, excess of social programs and mainly devaluation of the currency are the main reasons for the collapse.
There's also an economic war with China, who wants to kill the dollar as reserve currency, the yuan is not an alternative so they are buying gold instead preparing to the future.
