The Boys season 3 is a little too graphic for my taste

in streaming •  last year

I know that The Boys is meant to be graphic and gross but as I began season 3 I kind of feel like it is a bit much. I moreso appreciated the dark humor and devious nature of the first 2 seasons but kind of feel as though they are going for a "gross out" angle in season 3 that I find more disturbing than anything else.

Maybe that was their objective but it isn't working for me and I don't plan on watching any more of it.

I still like some of the characters like Homelander and Starlight but even there I kind of feel as though the character arcs are kind of repeating themselves. Also, whenever a new character is introduced it is kind of a telegraphing that they are going to end up being the new bad guy. But going to the gross out moments, season 3 begins with a superhero bad guy of sorts called Termite that shrinks down to crawl inside of someone's body and then accidentally sneezes and this makes him return to normal size and then he splits the person in half. I suppose it could be seen as kind of creative but to me it was just a bit too much considering that Termite crawled into someone's penis.

This was just a bit too much for me and I don't think I am alone in feeling this way. I understand that a series like this needs to keep pushing the envelope in order to retain their audience but I have limits as to what I can actually look out before it becomes too cringe.

I could be wrong of course because the show currently has a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Maybe I am just becoming a prude as I get older but I have my limits even though I usually quite enjoy gore flicks.

I also have an issue with the non superhero people in the cast having power over the actual superheroes. I've never quite understood this side of it seeing as how any of the characters could easily smash the organization that they are meant to be working for.

While this show still enjoys a rather large following I am going to be backing out now because I feel as though there are much better things to watch. For me as far as superhero series are concerned I think I enjoy John Cena's Peacemaker which was a surprise hit for HBO Max even resulting in the single highest viewership for any HBO Max original show ever.

So at least for now The Boys has succeeded in grossing me out the door. Will I come back? I don't know. With the backlog of shows that I currently have in front of me I don't see that happening in the near future.
