The Capitol of Republic of Yakutia

in streetphotography •  7 years ago  (edited)

The beginning of June last year was hot in Yakutia, the thermometer showed only a couple of degrees below the temperature in the capital of Thailand. Time in the unexpected trip ( which suddenly started) was decided to hold with profit, especially since there was a polar day and the Sun shining after the usual sunset.

A few words about summer Yakutsk-the capital of the Respublic of Sakha (the native name of Yakutia)

It all began in 1632, when a detachment of Yenisei Cossacks, led by a company’s commander Petr Beketov, in the tundra,

on the right bank of the river Lena was built a prison, with the aim of "the sovereign of Majesty (...) and to collect taxes and for the arrival of Yakut people."

In the city there are ancient wooden buildings, but the original, preserved and restored remained only this part - the tower of the guardians.

...As soon as they put the prison in the beginning of the XVII century, the war between the Cossacks and local people who lived in the uluses (settlements) around the prison and paid tribute to the local prince's nobility immediately began.

Then there were battles, and defeats and victories, a great flood in one year on the Lena River

flooded buildings, as a result, in 1643 the outpost was transferred to the left bank of the river, to the Tuymaada valley, where it had already become a city called Yakutsk.
Quite soon the city becomes the center of trade between Russian merchants and the local population, in the middle of the XVII century a large bazaar is already operating in the city.

Local people are beginning to actively change furs, fish, meat and lard for Russian-made goods...

Now the range of local folk crafts presented in the trade has changed slightly

Already in the 18th century new territories joined the Yakut territory, and the capital is losing its defensive purpose. Becoming an administrative center, Yakutsk turns into a place of exile of unwanted people. The first to arrive were teammates at the free-will(18th century) of Stepan Razin, later they brought the Decembrists(early 19th century) who took part in the uprising in the Senate Square, then went and went along the conveyor. Until the middle of the XIX century Yakutsk passed from various departmental territorial subordination, was then in the Siberian province, then in the Irkutsk province, by the beginning of the twentieth century, finally increasing its population to 7000 people.

In the first years of the twentieth century there were already new exiles in Yakutsk, numerous members of various parties were conducting May Day demonstrations in a few kilometers away from Yakutsk
