I'm back!
So I haven't been posting at all, it's been a long time and I have been busy
I was living abroad for a while, in order to improve my Chinese,我的说话进步了,可是我都学习了繁体字,所以现在我着眼进步我的简体字写字能力。 (My spoken Chinese has improved, but I was learning traditional Chinese characters so now I want to focus on my simplified Chinese character writing ability.)
I know that I will still make mistakes, as the biggest issue I always encountered as a Chinese language learner was that
would think in the structure of my native language - English.
Obviously this wasn't good as I would make these mistakes:
- I would construct my Chinese sentence like I would English
- That sentence would then sound weird to local Chinese speakers
- They would get confused and then I would get confused as I wouldn't have realised my mistake.
Hopefully I will grow out of this habit, but for now I am back home and going to attend a course focusing on Simplified Chinese.
Did I enjoy my time abroad?
Yes! I made many foreign friends, ranging from Vietnamese to Japanese students who were also learning Chinese!
It was great learning about their culture, but still a struggle as our common language was Chinese (which we were all learning).
Not only that, but the environment was so different from the cold weather that I usually had at home. It was warm, tropical and humid.
I encountered some problems because of this.
I'm not sure why, but I had many issues with mosquito bites. I am not sure why, mosquitoes loved biting me. I went to the local doctors about the bites as I would have allergic reactions resulting in massive blisters that even local nurses were shocked about!
This issue led to some funny interactions in Chinese though.
Wow that's huge! Can I take a picture?
I heard this 2 or 3 times from the medical professionals that helped me with my mosquito bite blisters - they had never seen it happen before it seemed but found it rather funny at the same time.
Unfortunately I haven't prepared any pictures yet, but I'm definitely going to be adding my own to future posts. For now, I used photos that weren't my own haha.
The pictures on this post were all sourced from pixabay - in future posts I will be using my own.
