Many in academia, journalism, and other professions have come to embrace politically correct (PC) rhetoric and actions as necessary. So what is it really and does it hurt self-esteem?
The answer is yes it does and here is why. The PC movement began as a reaction to the Vietnam War and the perceived political correctness that followed after those battles. Over time, as the movement grew and became the norm in our culture, people began to view themselves not only as victims of their environment, but also as victims of the political correctness that governed that environment.
It is this perception of victimhood that is one of the leading causes of political correctness. The result is that the person experiencing political correctness feels guilty and is afraid that their own words and actions may be misinterpreted. This can lead to feelings of isolation and anxiety.
The psychological effects of feeling guilty are well documented. People who feel guilty tend to be less successful at work and relationships. They also tend to have low self esteem. In addition, they tend to blame themselves for their own problems and are less likely to seek help from others, which lowers their success rate in life.
By definition, political correctness is psychological damage. It damages your self-esteem and weakens your ability to deal with stress. This is not the way to deal with these issues or live.
There is no doubt that political correctness does in fact hurt the people who suffer from it. It leads to poor decisions, self-esteem problems, and can cause depression.
While the PC movement does have a place in society, it should never dictate the actions of anyone who wants to pursue success. Everyone has the right to their opinion and everyone should have the right to speak their minds without fear of social retribution. Everyone has the right to express their views in public without fear of being attacked.
If you want to pursue success, you should reject PC and adopt a different, more realistic mindset. Look at the big picture. Make better decisions and have a stronger sense of self worth.
You have every right to think, write, and say whatever you want, but you don't have a right to get hurt because you do so. Political correctness has its place, but it can only hurt you if you allow it to. You shouldn't apologize for your own opinions or beliefs. You shouldn't have to hide your opinions because they are unpopular with the left.
If you want to succeed, you should look at the big picture and follow your passions, and beliefs. If you want to succeed, you should use your talents and intelligence and think of the good of humanity in the best way possible.
You should pursue what you love and make a commitment to yourself and to pursue excellence in your chosen fields of endeavor. You should be proud of your achievements and never apologize for the results that you achieve. Create new ideas and explore and expand your horizons.
Avoid the trap of false hope. If you want to succeed, you have to face down that fear and conquer that anxiety. This is where the true greatness comes in. The result is positive change.
You need to make sure that you are willing to accept criticism and learn to face it head on. Don't be afraid to follow your dreams, but don't allow that fear of rejection to keep you from achieving success.
