A person with an elevated self-esteem tends to acquire strategies that allow him to grow, while those with low self-esteem are unproductive and have difficulty in success. In the case of children who have it high is able to ask for help in the face of a difficulty, while who has it low tries to copy, is funny or makes excuses for not being able to resolve the situation.
In this sense, children who have high self-esteem, coexist more with success because they put more effort, feel control over what happens to them and generally receive responses from the environment that stimulate them; On the other hand, those who have it low when they live with the triumph, attribute it to luck, because they do not have confidence in their abilities, this is why we find these children with learning difficulties who have low self-esteem say they were lucky or who gave them the note when they achieve a good grade.
The intention is to show these children that it is possible to learn from mistakes, not that they lack perseverance, only that often because of their limitations they fall into frustration very quickly, so they want to avoid any humiliating experience, thus avoiding tasks before start them, blaming others or putting any excuse. It is important to emphasize that the fear of this type of situation in children is normal, but those who have learning difficulties are more vulnerable, since they do not know how to choose strategies that allow them to face them.
As a recommendation to deal with these cases, the assignment of responsibilities works quite well, since it helps them to develop their autonomy, self-respect and self-esteem. In short, work from home or from school with these children should be aimed at the self-demonstration of achievements so that they gain confidence and can coexist with success.
