My Nigeria Youth Service Corp Experience.
All my years in the University, I always thought the one year service to my country (NYSC- Nigeria Youth Service Corp) was a waste of one year, this was because I had read a lot of annoying comments by graduates from different universities so this gave me a negative feeling about the governmental scheme. I was wrong, I mean very wrong. Though the monthly allowance of 19,800 Naira equivalently $54 is not big enough to sustain a corp member for a month, but the experience you have being a member of the Nigerian Youth service corp is worth going through.

Last year November 24th 2016, I started my NYSC journey, I camped in Nasarawa State - Nigeria, an orientation camp of about 2300 people and of course I knew nobody there. The camp lasted for three weeks, not a long time but it was enough for me to make friends and associate with a lot of people. The first week was boring and tiring because I was alone, a lot of graduates were meeting their friends from their Universities were as me, who had just returned from Russia could not find any of my classmates because they were posted to different states. I hated the fact that I will stay away from my family for another one year after five years of studies in Russia, so I started looking for a means to relocate to Abuja (Capital of Nigeria). The distance from Nasarawa State to Abuja is not much but I could not stand traveling every weekend to meet with my family so I had to fight for every means of relocating.

The second week of the camp was getting better, I was already making friends and the camp activities were amazing, The camp routine was becoming a lifestyle and every thing was fun, the drill parade, games, pageant shows and other social activities had made the orientation camp a home from home, now I felt I was just ignorant & less informed about the Nigeria Youth Service Corp. When the camp was coming to an end, all the corp members were already planning their lives after the camp, they had already started discussing how to get houses and stay together till the end of their service year, all this made me wish I would never have applied for the relocation, because I was already getting close to all the friends I had made.

Some weeks after relocating to Abuja, and made all necessary registrations at the Abuja orientation camp, I got posted to a Parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources (NNRA- Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority) as my place of primary assignment.
The Nigeria Nuclear Regulatory Authority is another family I can never forget, the connectivity and collective work done there is awesome, The place gave me a great insight about Nuclear and Radioactive activities. This was where my intellect about Government organisations attained a high growth due to the relationship I had with both the workers and the call members (NYSC members).

During this service year, I carried out some Community Development Service with the Federal Road safety commission, There was much to learn is this Road safety group, safety tips, the do's and don't while driving, vehicle information and how to face the Road safety and Vehicle inspection officers on the road were good points to start with. I also came across Cryptocurrencies and Steemit this year, I could not hold this to myself, so I quickly shared this opportunity and promoted the Steemit platform with my community development members, this alone gave me that feeling, that I can actually lay an impact on someone's life. I also plan to start a YouTube channel with a goal of sharing ideas and guide those who are new to the Crypto world.

Though I had some flaws and hard times during my service year but I did not let them overwhelm me, I made sure it was all about positivity because I wanted the experience to be worth sharing. I know some NYSC members might not have had same experience & some had a better experience than I did, but I want to encourage graduates that are planning to enroll into the service scheme to have a positive mind towards it, there is so much to learn and this will really guide one through their life.
