When the succulent nursery is a mess, but you still cant resist bringing a few home...TIPS FOR SAVING SUCCIES!

Hi Steemers!

Its day 2 of my Steemit Cement & Succulents blog. I went to a local nursery yesterday to pick out some succulents. A HUGE part of my business right now is Instagram (@MadPotters), so unfortunately, I'm snapping and posting for likes and hoping those hearts turn themselves into dollars. Not a bad way to get started, but I don't want to be scrolling and tagging forever!

Anyways, point being, I plant up most of my pots for their 15 seconds of fame on IG before heading to the Etsy shop as a listing. Probably not the most economical way to promote myself, but honestly? Put the hashtag "succulents" on a post, and it magically gets more exposure. (NOTE TO SELF: succulents as a tax write off?) I just hope the "trend" doesnt die out as fast as my String of Pearls....

Check this guy out - I saw his tips glowing from clear across the greenhouse! Close up, he wasnt looking so hot, but nothing a little love and insect killing soap cant fix.

First step was to remove all the dead leaves from the bottom. And look! I found a baby! One of my favorite things about succulents is how easy they propagate. The problem is I get so excited, I'm like a toddler with sausage fingers. Ripped this guy off before I had a chance to snap a photo. You can see the pile of dead leaves in the background. There were a ton! But, leaving them on can cause issues with your succies. Just be more careful than I am!

No matter, this guy will do well with the water propagation method. I took this shot with the hopes of sharing a progress photo in a few days.....

But then I stepped on it. Fuck. Sorry, little dude.

Im always hopeful with these somewhat hearty plants, so I picked up the pieces and put them in my propagation tray. I'll post pics if he survives!

Oh, and here is what I use to treat most everything I bring home from a nursery. Even if they look healthy, I give them a quick spray down just in case there are any hitchhikers! I'm not 100% sure if I'm doing it right, but I've soaked bare roots in this stuff before, and the cactus is still alive :)

What do you use to treat for mealie bugs and other nasties in the garden?

Happy Potting!
