New succulents and free spiders

in succulents •  7 years ago  (edited)

I went off to a local flea market today and realised that I'd had a brain fart about the dates. It falls on the first and last Sunday of every month and today is the first, so I missed it last week. Sadly, I have never been much good at knowing what day of the week it is, much less the date. I got some new things from my favourite succulent seller. He couldn't remember what this is called, and suggested osteo... osteoporosis. I told him that Osteoporisis is a medical condition: does anyone have a clue what this plant is? * Update: it is Orostachys fimbriata or Dunce’s Cap *

I got these, and I do know what they are, clockwise from left: Aloe "Tuffy", Gasteria nigricans cultivar, Cotyledon, Aeonium and Haworthia limifolia

Then I found a stall selling old clay pots so I got a few of those and look who was hiding in the bottom, very well camouflaged:

I tried putting her in the tree but she jumped off and headed in a direction that was likely to get her squashed so I put her back in her pot and took her home with me. She's a nursery web spider, one of the medium-sized hunting spiders and they often do end up stuck inside buckets and plant pots because they fall in and they can't get out if the sides are too steep. I brought her home and put her pot sideways under a bush so that she can make her way out when she feels ready.

You have a nice assortment of succulents. I just have one very big one.

In a dry, sunny country like mine - the home of many succulents, it makes sense to garden with them. Which one do you have?

I have a 2.13 metre euphorbia. There is a recent photo in my blog because it fell over.

I do know osteoporosis is deterioration of the bones. Genenerally, happens as we age. It’s funny, I often find these little spiders in the bottoms of the planting pots. Sorry you missed the flea market, but you got some good photographs in. 🐓🐓

Thank you! I mean the plant, not the medical condition ;) Sadly, the spiders do fall in quite often

What a lulu I can be sometimes. Of course you meant a plant disease! Lol🐓🐓

What a beautiful and interesting plant on the first photo!
I look forward to its development!
I think it's time for you to collect spiders! hahaha

There is no need to collect them, they are all around!

hahaha

I could not see the spider hidden in the mulch from the pot but then I scrolled down and there she was. shudder

I love spiders!

She was very well camouflaged, it took me a minute to spot her. Thats so nice you took care of her like that.

I'm always happy to have more! I have a soft spot for the hunting spiders

Markets can always be great for plants

So much cheaper, too

I have wonderful flea market nearby. It is every Thursday, and just like you, it happened to me many times to get in some days-confusion and miss it.
Love the spider, a beauty!
And the plants are amazing.
Osteo ... one and Gasteria are my favorites from this post :)
I have also one osteo-plant, and I think I will call it this way from now on. ;)

I think that osteo is also stuck in my mind, haha. I have been looking for gasteria like this one, they make pretty interesting hybrids with aloe aristata

It's good that you have a flea market. There you can always buy interesting things. I also often go to our market. There I have long-known salesmen who collect various items I need.

Flea markets are the best

osteo... osteoporosis just made me cry :D

Yeah, that was pretty good

One of it looks like sansiviera. Looks like you are gardening addict, CatLady... :D

No Sanseverias there. I do enjoy my garden and I am hoping to set up a small business growing succulents. I also have a house where the yard was a complete wasteland so it is my task to change that with vegetables and plants. So it's more of a current project than an addiction
