The statements to the press from the corresponding author of this study on sucralose seem a bit reckless to me.

She basically says to not consume sucralose.

Their findings are from an in vitro (not in vivo) study where they exposed cells to sucralose-6-acetate, an intermediate and impurity in the manufacturing of sucralose. At high concentrations they found evidence of DNA damage in the cells. But according to the study, sucralose-6-acetate is in fairly low concentrations in actual sucralose products (albeit they say in rats it can be a metabolite), so it isn't at all clear that normal consumption of sucralose would have this effect. And notably they don't find evidence of mutation.

I generally limit artificial sweeteners and sugar anyways, but the overly strong language by the author in the press raised all sorts of red flags with me that I had to see what the study was saying.
