Depression

A lot of people have plunged into depression because of the negativity that accompanied a particular fall.

Even more have taken their lives because there was no one to talk to in a time of need.

There's even this sad trend of people taunting folks who make suicide-related posts on social media instead of finding a way to speak life/hope to them.

Few weeks ago, some guy posted how much he loved his mom and told people to take care of her when he's gone. Getting on the thread, I saw comments like 'did you have to tell us?', 'oga die if you want' & many other such comments. I rushed to his timeline and the next thing I saw was plenty RIPs alongside eulogies. Then suddenly, social media analysts; our chief judges, our lord temporals started analysis cum blame-game. He's gone fam.

In the month of August, someone on my friends list here made a post that he was about to take his life and the same trend was unleashed on him. I saw it less than five minutes after the post, tried to chat him up to no avail but thank goodness, I found a phone number on his profile. Immediately, I called twice but he didn't pick until the third. I was made to know that the calls distracted the actual suicide process. Fiction? No.

Call it ignorance however, but truth be told, we all have that low moment in our lives and we handle it differently.

As entrepreneurs, sometimes it's frustrating, you could get to your all-time low and just a li'l extrinsic motivation would do. Relationships, work, family etc could get messy.

There's too much negativity in the world already and sadly, social media bullying worsens it for us. Be there for your friends, check up on them once in a while, say something nice to them, give them hope.

Let's learn to share hope and not hate.

We all need a shoulder to lean on.
Be that shoulder today.IMG_20160201_083320.jpg
