About the Sundstrand
Sundstrand Corporation was formed in Rockford, Illinois in 1926 by the merger of the Rockford Tool Company and the Rockford Milling Machine Company. Sundstrand Machine Tool Company was the company's name until 1959, when shareholders decided to change it to Sundstrand Corporation.
Sundstrand was a manufacturer of industrial and aerospace goods. Aerospace products included emergency power and secondary power systems, as well as electric power producing systems, constant speed drives, and gas turbine engines.
It also owned and ran a technology company that provided video and audio playback equipment as well as in-flight entertainment programmes to the airline industry. Sony purchased Sundstrand in 1989, renamed it Sony Trans Com, and then sold it to Rockwell Collins in 2000.
Sundstrand and Hamilton Standard merged to form Hamilton Sundstrand after United Technologies Corporation purchased Sundstrand in 1999.
