Superheroine Battle Arena, Invincibelle's Quarters
Invincibelle finished her shower and was getting ready for bed. She was uncharacteristically sore. She was much more invulnerable than she was strong, but being in the midst of a four-way superheroine battle, that was painful even for her. She collapsed face first towards the bed but stopped herself in mid flight as her cell phone rang. She hovered over the sheets for a split second then drifted towards the dresser and grabbed the phone. She smiled when she saw the caller. She swiped the phone, "Hey, Steph."
"Wow. You sound like you were just bludgeoned by three very strong super women..." replied Statuesque, a hint of concern in her voice.
Invincibelle was still floating and drifting towards her bed, "Nah, it wasn't that bad."
"You're a terrible liar," retorted Stephanie. "Probably from being a man..."
Eva huffed at her, and turned around so that she was looking at the ceiling. "I've almost eliminated all the heroines here as possible hosts. Last one on the list to fight is that Big Russian woman, Ursa Major."
"What about that creepy, vampire chick?"
"Midnight? No, she is apparently not actually alive. Ivankov said that the leech probably wouldn't be able to feed off of her... Of course there's an awful lot of guesswork on this whole mission."
"Uh huh..." muttered Stephanie.
"I'll go punch Ursa Mega a bunch of times to see if... hmmm, I actually don't know what I'm expecting to happen if there is a space leech in her. But one last fight and I'll probably be heading home. I have a few wrestling moves I'd like to show you..." Eva cancelled her flight and dropped onto the bed.
"Hey, Eva..." ventured Statuesque. "Have you thought about your strategy for fighting Ursa?"
"Strategy?"
"I mean, she is the second strongest woman in the league's roster. The most dominant grappler by far and if she grabs and twists a limb that's the kind of attack most likely to hurt you through your forcefield." Statuesque's voice raised in pitch as she continued. "You want to keep your distance, use your flight to make leaping attacks and try to keep her off her feet as much as possible, don't let her use her weight as leverage against you."
Eva propped herself up against her pillows, "Whoa, Steph! Hold on. I'm not here to win a championship, I'm just here to punch some superheroines' faces and leave."
"Aren't you concerned about your reputation?"
Invincibelle made a noise halfway between a scoff and a "Wha?" "No, why would I...?"
"Belle, honey." Statuesque cut her off. "You are the premier defender of Cape City. When you are done with this mission, you need to come back home and be the hero that we need here."
"Yeah..." Eva was a little confused. "Does this have something to do with me doing the heel turn on Blackmare?"
"Huh? No." she answered. "It has to do with your enemies, with the enemies of the city, viewing you as weak. I don't care about you looking like the bad guy in the ring. If anything you being a total B will make you that much more daunting. But being a creampuff and throwing fights against lightweights? That's inviting every villain in the world to come to Cape City and start throwing their weight around."
Invincibelle looked serious. She really hadn't thought about how her appearance in the arena would affect the others around her. "oh... I guess, I never thought about it. So, what should I do?"
"Just one thing..." she said quietly then added emphatically, "Win!"
Belle smiled, "Alright. Thanks for the pep talk, Adrian..."
"Adrian?"
"Rocky II. Hospital scene? Never mind, you wouldn't understand. It's a guy movie."
Statuesque laughed softly, then after a short pause asked, "So, what are you wearing?"
Eva smiled, "I am so glad you asked..."
