A supermarket run is not for me. Occasionally, however, I go into one to keep abreast. I had located a particularly large one for my entertainment today. However, it seems to be a stressful event for me, judging by my response to all the wares stocked and stacked. I found myself muttering things under my breath, which really can’t be said out loud.
I had just spent a good five minutes comparing olive oils. They must be all the same, I conclude, one big marketing hoax, organic or not. Their origin might make a slight difference in flavour (Italian, Spanish, Greek) and there is one “monoculture” that interests me a bit, but the brand is relatively cheap and has so many different varieties I don’t trust the quality. That’s me missing out on value for money. There is also one that mixes countries: Italy, Spain, Tunesia. It’s where I draw the line. It is good for us to mingle, but I don’t think it works for olives. Blends are the norm, so I also hesitate at an organic one with its main ESP being a mix of varieties, as if that's special. Maybe these are an exclusive type of olive? My knowledge of the olive is limited to its workings in a Bach Remedy (good for trauma, as a strengthener). But I read the label carefully dipping my crust in to some new (musical) vocabulary: Leccino, Frantoio, Moraiolo.
Having browsed, by now, for a good ten minutes in total (I’ve moved on to vinegars, pastas and sauces) I am starting to grow weary of the excess amount of deceptive choice, so the final straw is a new brand of pesto.
That is when I mutter, I hope all vegans drop down dead, spotting a vegan Genovese pesto I wearily compare to a normal Genovese pesto. (There is also just pesto....and then they wouldn't need a vegan variety. But the art of being vegan is being very difficult wherever you can.) The difference lies in the soy (ovviamente) replacing the pecorino (sheep). The exploitation of sheep is a terrible thing. The mammary glands of bovine, oves and capraea are not made to service humans. And men are supposed to have beards: it’s natural! And women armpit hair, fuzzy legs, and even a moustache.

I feel the need to attone for my curse. I’m being a bull in a china shop. No wonder I have no friends. I am leaking slippery goo which tells me the oil-spill of disappointment has still not been dispersed enough by the tides rolling in and out as the days grow in number between all my words and none of hers. That slippery stuff of all the efforts made and none received and the little coccoons in the corners with false hope. They are tucked away like the egg sacks of spiders. A hundred little beasties could still crawl out to reinfest your feeble mind. You thought you had hoovered up all the arachnid in your heart that weaves webs where hearths are pointless. It would be foolish to believe I am allowed to forget my vegan colleague. So it’s back into the freezer. Maybe, I’ll try the fridge. Can’t keep things in there for as long.
I see my chance to pay up for my potty mouth. I force myself to think twice before I leap. I am always misunderstood. Will it be worth it? I wait for an assistant to walk by pushing a floor cleaning machine; she goes down the aisle, turns and then comes back up it, where I stop her in front of the washingmachine detergents. It’s the summer holiday, I appreciate, staff of the schoolboy/girl calibre might be harder to find, so I hope to be helpful by pointing out that this whole row of bottles in between all the other detergent bottles is multi-purpose floor cleaner, not for clothes. Its bottle looks just like the liquid detergent. A customer might easily pick it up by mistake.
The organic no-nonsense theme is carried out rather stingently over the entire line of products of this particular brand. I've noticed it before grabbing for the wrong bottle in my own kitchen cabinet. We depend on your ordered shelving to make our natural life easier. Perhaps, the harmless products are that multi-purpose they are perfectly interchangeable. Still, that’s not for you to decide, is it, and ruin their mulitplex sales strategy? (I don't say any of this, I just ask if this is also washing powder. She informs me it is not. I must take care not to pick up by mistake, she'll have somebody come and sort out the mix up.)
That debt paid off, I am reminded of how we used to be. Me and my Unbeliever co-worker (who prefers work to friends, which I tried very hard to respect. I still don’t think I deserve any of this.). We used to drink a cup of this brew that comes out of a machine with a pad, coffee I think they call it, but there’s so many new names for coffee. It was perfectly potable, even for a coffee snob. I didn’t really mind what you served. There were more pressing matters at hand, do you remember? Of course you do. There still are. All the more work for me then, yippee. (To be fair, you did say you were seeking early retirement. But to work at this solo? I must still be very young, not to see how that can be done.)
I learned to drink coffee as cortados, and then had a break during and after pregnancy. Now I travel the world by way of freshly ground fair-trade coffees from the roaster’s, prepared in a cafetière (French pess ) or a moka pot (boggles the mind how it works exactly), drunk black (and you don’t touch the stuff anymore – bad for migraines; or it’s not Raw enough).
Home Stratosphere explains 16 Types of Coffee Makers.
I don’t think everybody is peering at the labels like I am. A woman with a tot on her hip, asks another assistant with some panic in her voice, where the macchiatto has got to. It sometimes is there, and then all of a sudden they’re out of it. How can that be good stock keeping! The assistant tells her not to worry, it’s got to be somewhere; it is on special offer, so most of it is stacked in a more high-viz location. The shopper is not impressed, the baby is heavy and having to walk around the shop in search of powdered coffee is the last thing she wants to be doing. I am left bewildered overhearing this incomprehensible exchange. How can macchiatto be on a shelf, in a box??
I slide along the herbal teas and pick up a few to see it these have been able to avoid that eternal licorice (which drowns out all other flavours), which really should be avoided in excess if you want to take care of your blood pressure; (but how much would you have to ingest on what regular basis to get 140 over 90? There is no serving me a quiet cup of herbal tea.)
I saunter over to the instant coffees. I stand and gape. What are all these boxes containing? I have never ventured into this aisle before. It has a sixties space-age feel to it. There are sachets of Organic Latte Cacao Maca Magic, Instant Iced Vanilla Latte, Decaffeinated Cappuccino, Gold Salted Toffee Macadamia Mocha, Double Chocolate Mocha Coffee, and thank god, an Unsweetened Cappuccino; by now I have looked at the ingredients in the hope I can figure out how you can put a macchiatio in a sachet (milk in a box), which is bewildering to me. Don’t let the cows hear….

I fear I need new lenses, I can’t find coffee on the label … oh wait, 8%, after all the sugar and powdered milk and more glucose and oil. The Unsweetened one is not at all unsweetened! It’s main ingredient is sugar! Only “ *now less sugar compared with previous recipe. The coffee (can I really call it that?!) company of the latter product (which I shall leave unnamed) would like to call itself comprised of “Cofficionados “- since 1923. They give a definition of this term to refer exclusively to themselves as well as “a true coffee lover”. If we were in any doubt of the picture on the box they assure us: it makes for a creamy and frothy drink. Maybe, having this to offer your visitor is the first step to making a friend? Righty-O. One for the next shopping list, then.
Conclusion after the supermarket trip.
I got what I wanted. For it not to be make-do. A surrogate coffee, a mashed-up blend, an all-purpose fix. That's why I am not hearing from you anymore. I have never known any different so forgive me, Dear Unbeliever, for making such a fuss after getting what I wanted, just because I didn't get it the way I wanted it. It apparently doesn’t have to be about making the most of it with the frugal means at one's disposition. I don't have to strain to improvise and leave my home just to be of some support. A soul can starve to death more elegantly, hardly noticing the emaciated bones poking through. One can stretch the soul always more, into a body suit. And the body, well, we’ll just pour more coffee into it. Macchiato, anyone?

It is truly amazing how much of our landscape is dominated by advertising. It seems everything is an add, or at minimum covered in one or more adds, to the point of even altering the appearance of Humans. A dockworker once remarked that "paintings hang on a wall, they don't sit" refusing to give up his seat on a bus after a hard long day. All that plucking, shaving, painting and dressing is an attempt to look younger, but why? We're not fooling anyone and we aren't any healthier underneath, we only look healthier.
Sometimes there are practical reasons for certain "improvements" like hiding burn scars. I get this because many of my wheel chair clients complained people were talking to their equipment (headrests, sip&puff straws and other controls) rather than making eye contact. As a young Dive master, yes I worked in the Tourist trap industry, having a beard or mustache meant having a perpetual water leak in my mask unless I used copious amount of Vaseline to stem the tide of rising water attempting to drown my eyeballs. Tired of having to clean all that goop off my 'stache 3 times a day meant the facial hair had to go. Being a creature of habit, it stayed that way most of the time, besides, time spent on grooming is time not spent on other things I'd rather be doing.
I always questioned the wisdom of spending weeks of fairing and sanding to get the perfect finish on a newly built boat, only to have it blemished by the first wave that slams it into a dock, though I must admit that I also like to look at pretty things and that the advertisers are fully making use of that to try and get my attention.
After all, I take my Coffee with all the embellishments.

Delighted to discover diving serves a purpose! I can't wait for hipster season to be over. Boys, have we nothing better to be getting on with, indeed?
That eye-contact issue is very much being discussed at the minute, don't you find? The discussion is going tediously slow. The heart of the matter constantly entirely missed - not by you.
I would remain dogged (the word of the day) in saying those burns are beautiful works of art (since the Guernica is also art) which could educate a soul or two. Granted, in the meantime it makes your own life darn miserable half the time, staring up into the void that is society.

By the by, something totally different and practical, what do you make of this creativecoin? And why are downvotes so good to have.... Very confused. soyrosa has a lot to inform me on but it makes no sense to me to layer up the blogsites. Is it like distributing your oliveoil to one supermarket and another? Greater chance of sales? But is the currency worth the same? I have totally lost the plot as far as the wallet bit goes. I have an enormous amount of steem I wonder what to do with.

Oh my, only finding this after writing an answer to the first part. Ok, the Steem wallet was split off from the blog site and there now are several different front ends, Steemit being one of them, but now there is also Steempeak, Palnet and Partiko. I haven't really explored any of these yet, but I do have a login for Palnet on the insistence from Lynds'. Yes there are different tokens for some of these, but I haven't really explored what they can do or how that all works.
What would you like to do with your Steem? You can power it up so your votes and curation rewards are higher. Once you have more than 500 SP you can also delegate your SP to help others with less than 50SP so they can post more. To cash out I convert to Litecoin and use that Wallet to send it to a local exchange who will then deposit it directly into my bank account after conversion to Euros. It seems you have completely ignored the Steem aspect of Steemit, no matter, there is plenty of help.
In the Netherlands there are several local exchanges, but I don't know if they cater to the UK. I'm sure there have to be a few in/around London.

Not so interested in London.
Never thought about cashing out. Hardly worth it (119 dollars) - and I'm not putting in any of my own money (I haven't got) to make a swift profit (somehow magically). I dont know how to read the graphs or translate my intuition into smart investments. I'd need a tutor on a regular basis. But helping others, might be a thing I'll look into. It was the plan at the end of round one. Were we not into powering down at one stage? Is it wise to power up at all? Sigh. Back to the old question : what am I doing here?
I'm sure if I make a bit of an effort I might start to come up with a cunning strategy, but it could detract from the creative side. It calls for allies and specialists clearly. Slowly they are popping out of the woodwork for me. May be running a few more thoughts like these past you in the near future, if it's not inconvenient.

Inconvenient? You? Jamás! Right now, I don't see Steem going up anytime soon. There are several reasons for that, but I won't bore you with the details. I powered up a bunch of steem, but for me it is play money. I had powered down about 1700 steem and day traded altcoins with that until it turned over about 5 times and what I have in Steem now is part of that, I just brought it back to where it came from. (kind of..)
For you it depends on what you want. If you want a large audience it is not easy to achieve that here and other sites like wordpress and such may work out better. That being said, I'd love to keep you here because this platform needs a few writers with some substance, like yourself. You could become part of a community of writers, but they would expect you to power up and some return votes. I never got into that, not because I wasn't invited, but I don't want to be stuck reading the same people all the time ( yeah right, what am I doing now right?). If you want I can power up some more Steem and delegate the SP to you so you'd have more wiggle room without tying down your own stake. This would also give you the time to figure out if you like having the additional SP or if it leaves you not caring either way. I do have to tell you that if you have no plans for cashing out, you may as well power up. For one it's safer, if your account should get hacked it would take 13 weeks for them to take your steem giving you time to recover your account before they get it all.
As to making money trading crypto, there are a number of things you can do and strategies you can follow that would suit your needs and not bore you to death watching numbers all day long. When you are ready to discus that, please hit me up.

At nearly four in the morning I shan't be looking into the trading of crypto, but I am going to sleep on it and come back with questions. I am sure you have strategies to share that are exciting enough even for me.
The tip on the steem is most useful, because I already felt this to be the first thing to do, which should also give me enough wiggle room, right? Have to discover what the conversion rate it: maybe it gives me very little power these days. There is wise amount of steem to keep in stock you once told me....? I rember finding myself forever to low on it but I can't recall for what.
I am not after more readers, au contraire. For me a focussed audience, whether they spell out my every word or not, is helpful. Water in the desert. A casual clan very exhausting. Really Wordpress is not for me. It is one big drawer or a harddrive. I write anyway, more than I ever post in a day. What do I want to share it all for? With whom? More strangers? There has to be a purpose. Not an obvious crumb on a fishing rod, but some kind of dance floor. The clue to Steemit is - what I first found so despicable - the daily turnover. But not utterly random.
The money linked to content aspect is practically diabolical. What artist won't say that. But content can also be sacred for a day. What content can actually, like a sand mandala be brushed away without having been meaningless. Like dinnertable conversation.
The money makes for a common denominator, I and the guy on the edge of the pool listing his assets and showing us his latest Porsche are on the same boat. Going absolutely nowhere. That is fascinating for an esoteric researcher. But to do the research properly, I do often feel I have to get into wallet part of Steemit. But it's not my thing to judge and approve (vote) other people's work. It hurts the teacher in me and I'm just not soft enough to encourage the whole world.
Clearly the main problem is there is not enough and diverse influx for a community that sustains the idealism of Steemit. And the money is not getting "none the wiser". The content is not effecting a single thing except the interactions in the now: but then crazy meeting up in Bangkok.... The world's a little to mad for weary little me. This world is even madder somehow, despite or because of the very normal people here. It is not that the money is bad; it is doing something. Something odd. On many fronts. Quite simply, without the money in the middle, you and I would never have met. (I don't dive, you don't knit).
The experiment for which I was sent in (we esotericists do little out of our own accord; we follow voices within, could just be rumblings from too many strawberries) has very little to do with being read and everything with my project which is in effect a 24 hour meditation. Since this is also quite taxing, I equally share your resistance to join a tribe; as if I don't have 58 + books a month to get through as it is. I need input to have output and reacting to opinion drives me round the bend. Plus I can only do superficial-polite for so long. You are the more affable of us two.
Oh, and, I'm going to have to give it some serious thought why I might not go confruta, if you get my gist, for the wallet part. Mum's the word. It was something I meant to do from the very start, something I am used to doing, backing up, contingency plans, two points of view, incognito etc, but then content took over. But for me to split myself in two might not be possible. But it might be quieter. Surely a piece of cake for a Twin? Only have to find a way to fit 48 hours in a day.

Well if you are not looking for an audience, nor interaction with many, there is no need for more than the SP you already have. Having more than 500 SP gives you a slider and allows you to vote for the work of others for less than the full 100%. At 50% you can vote 20 times a day instead of the standard 10. Since you aren't interested in cashing out, putting it in savings might make more sense as it only takes a few days to get it back out.
I can certainly appreciate the fact that Steem brought together the diver and the knitter, and you're right about me, I'm a social creature alright and thoroughly enjoy your company and musings here.

I knew someone with severe burn scars she got as a child, but I never experienced that as repulsive, on the contrary, I thought she was beautiful as did many. It's also a matter of perspective, her wounds healed over and left scars, mine won't.
I really liked, no, loved building, adapting and repairing that union between Human and Machine. The interpersonal contact wasn't always easy though. How to deal with emotions when all you know is machines? What do you say to a 29 year old quadriplegic who walked home instead of getting behind the wheel drunk, only to be stuffed in a wheel chair for life by another drunk who made the opposite decision? How to tell a mother she needs to back off when I need to communicate with her child, the paraplegic wheel chair pilot. There are no books..
The only thing I couldn't take was being on call 24/7 for a 3 state area with no end in sight and an employer whose only motivator was profit and more interested in me selling parts rather than solving problems.
Yes, eye contact is most definitively a good thing. The oxen are slow, but the earth is patient. Confucius perhaps?

ingredients are the same, and the main one is sugar. Why it's every where? (maybe not in the Olive oil)

Ha ha, three cheers for sugar-free olive oil!
I have a very esoteric-nutritional answer for you, actually, why it is in every thing.....The upshot is sugar (glucose) fortifies a sense of Self.... it is why even primitive tribes travel far and wide to look for honey. Too much sugar becomes a surrogate for Self. Another easy way out my friend. Oh, I seldom come bearing good news, do I?!

This made me think of an article I read about a German chain of discount grocers (Aldi) that is growing fast in the US. ( https://www.cnn.com/interactive/2019/05/business/aldi-walmart-low-food-prices/index.html ) Apparently they just focus on having one good and cheap example of everything, instead of the typical bewildering American supermarket variety. The passage that really struck home to me: "With five or six super-wide aisles, Aldi only stocks around 1,400 items — compared to around 40,000 at traditional supermarkets and more than 100,000 at Walmart supercenters." Geez... I am sold and I have never even seen an Aldi's!

I've seen those MegaMega supermarkets on tv and always feel a bit nauseous then. Coupon collectors make the whole supermarket business even insaner for me! Europe seems to be catching up fast to US (malls - or is it just the music - are my other nightmare and unavoidable).
Aldi has it's down side too, I'm afraid. The quality can be a little questionable. But that might just be down to my outrageously high demands for a little concern for animal welfare, crop rotation, and a little less air-traffic, you know, those sort of ultra-luxurious standards. (No but, seriously, I well appreciate too many people are just happy to have beans on toast, whatever the brand, however they've been sourced and processed - and however much sugar has been added; these are issues that have to be taken seriously from the top down. Next millenium maybe).
So chuffed to have you reading some of my writing, I'd say keep up the good work! But I know you have lots of calls to make! Keep up the good work in general then!

it's the same here in usa - fortunately we do have a smaller-ish health food store market that is ok but they have gazillion overpackaged items constantly changing. I stick with produce mostly and bread, some coffee beans and bulk items - I consume as simply as possible - animal products are not working for my gut much more it seems, so that would make me vegan by default - but I don't buy "vegan" products - I just don't eat animal products that much - i am easing off them - and all processed food.

Sounds like you are making some very conscious choices: always inspiring to hear. I too, mainly buy from a healthfood shop. Sometimes a farmer's market. Try to eat seasonal and local produce and above all listen to my "gut instinct". So many diets out there to drive you potty otherwise!
I like your motto! (...obsessed by truth). Could be mine - for all the good it does!

I think it does good one person at a time- and what is for sale in the market place unless it is from an individual- is an illusion- today. I too like farmers markets as well... stay local and cook from scratch
