Did you already know that the pipa pipa carries the eggs on her back❔👀

The common surinam toad, also known as the pipa pipa, is a South American frog. This art lives year-round, aquatic in murky, muddy, flowing waters in the Amazon. The pipa pipa can be on average 12 and a maximum of 20 cm long. Underwater males and females do a mating dance while clasping upside down loops. In the uppermost phase of a loop, the female rejects some eggs while the male releases his sperm at the same time. The pair then dives back down and here the sinking eggs land on the back of the female and stick there.

The male supports this process by pressing the eggs against the skin of the back with the help of his hind feet. Over time, the eggs are overgrown by the female's skin and encapsulated in a honeycomb-like manner. After 11 to 12 weeks, fully developed young toads finally hatch from the honeycomb. The pipa pipa does not reach sexual maturity until the age of six.
