Bug Out Bits: Bugging out is not camping # 3

in survival •  6 years ago  (edited)

So, what’s the difference between bugging out, camping, and long distance hiking? Lets take a look inside Squirrel Bait’s mind. I warn you, it can be a scary place. Bugging out is a treacherous, scary, and difficult thing to do!

Your anxiety/fear/threat level in general is much lower during normal outdoor adventures. You are not threatened by every movement. During a bug out, you’re even threatened by The Authorities trying to “rescue” you and countless other enemies. Meanwhile, you know you are not going home any time soon and there is no way of knowing how long this will last. This leads to extreme unending emotional and mental stress. In a world of depression and anxiety disorders, could you handle it? There will be no more medication refills.

This leads me to the effects of such stress. Ya know, physical effects. Those inconvenient effects in particular. What do I mean? Well, I tell you now, pack some Imodium for the first two weeks or so. You got it! A lot of people will tell you...stress goes right to your gut. Imagine trying to sneak around, catching just naps for sleep, running as needed, and you have cramps and diarrhea. Oh yeah. This is going to be the case for many folks. Toilet paper? Where? I’m not one to take up space in my BOB with wipes but if you’re one of those “gut people” pack some for the initial adjustment period.

hahaha! yes squirrelbait they need to get their priorities straight for that first adjustment period!

Good morning @janton! Well, for me anyway. Yup, again, people don't like to talk or think about it but its a reality.

ha! yes and you give them a harsh dose of reality, I love that about your posts! just say here's what it's going to be like people, accept it! lol.

Threat levels will surely go up... With a complete lawless scenario, most folks reactions will be pittyfull no doubt...
This can all be overcome with training and exposure to varying scenarios and levels of danger...
With not real way of water filtration, it will only be a matter of days before people will get sick too, as you have indicated.... getting a case of 'the squits' will be a killer...... Gangs will form and a resource batle will ensue...
Well said and highlighted @Squirrelbait....

Thanks. Those without formal training and exposure, like me, need to be at least realistic about expectations. Otherwise, all these folks "preparing for shtf" will lose their minds. They will panic, freeze, etc. Believe it or not, those of us raised "in the bad part of town" of cities are most prepared to handle the threat stress.

Exactly... 'Threat-Stress' - Good terminology.
I thknk state of mind will prevail, you should be pretty well prepared on that front.

I hope so. As you know....there's what you think your reaction would be and then there's the actual reaction. I tend to go emotionless in a crisis and just do what needs to be done but a shtf crisis is so different. Fear, confusion, etc. I hope so. People around me will be looking to me for direction. I can't freak out or freeze up.
