Growing Lettuce and Greens in a Cold Frame by Sunscape

This last weekend my husband helped me to set up my lettuce cold frame. I had plug trays growing in the greenhouse and I had been waiting for the freezing nights to end. The weather has been quite the roller coaster with the temps up and down every few days. I decided to do the cold frame and plant the little plants. They are just starting to take root in their new home and are already beginning to stand up. This photo is of Swiss Chard, then I have different lettuce types, spinach and Chinese cabbage that go in this frame.

Awesome! I'd love to grow things in my own garden someday in the future. I currently live in an apartment so can't really do much as the moment! Is it as relaxing as they say it is? I fear I'd end up killing all of my veggies!

I am sure you would enjoy it. I find it very relaxing to be in the gardens tending to all the different plants. I feel very connected to nature then.

Do all plants have to wear cold frames in place of @sunscape.?

I am just protecting them as our nights are still cold but the frames come off in about 2 weeks. It helps me to get an earlier start on growing.

Good luck, if any time visit my Blog thank you

Nice work. You will soon be rewarded with fresh greens in abundance.
hope you don't have deer around :)

hahaha that is funny... oh yeah we have 6 that visit regularly now. They enjoy the corn at the bird feeder and sometimes munch on my tulips and occasionally top off a tomato plant.

Wonderful! I just started my vegetable garden again. I hadn't gardened for 6 years , I missed it for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Good for you, I am sure you will enjoy gardening again.

Great post, just what I'm looking for. Is your green house heated? I took your advice and got seeds from Seed Savers Exchange. Any advice on growing I'm all ears.

First off you need to start those eggplant and broccoli seeds asap. They take a long time to grow big enough to plant out. Everything else except the carrots can be sown directly in the ground now as they are cold weather crops. Do the carrots and beans when the soil warms up in about 3 weeks from now. Yes, I do heat my greenhouse with Milkhouse heaters, I have three of them running on the coldest nights trying to keep it around 55. Good luck Mike.

Thanks for the tips. Wish I had some where indoors to start stuff. Next life.

Oh I so here you! I am so out of room in my house. Thank god I built that greenhouse years ago when I was doing the nursery and going to our public market. It has served me well!

I guess you have done a post on your greenhouse already.

No not yet. I am behind schedule lol I am remodeling part of my kitchen and that is taking up a lot of my time this week.

I did mine couple years ago. Should have done it a long time ago. Best place to invest your money.

Good for you, there is nothing like growing your own veggies.

Getting ready for lovely fresh salads @sunscape

In a few days of being in the cold frame they have already taken root and are sending up new shoots. I will have salad early this year. woo hoo
